Happy Monday!! Let’s talk headshots! The first pic is a non-traditional headshot and the second is what you may typically be used to seeing.

While #1 certainly isn’t as “stoic” as the second, it is still totally professional! Gone are the days where you have to have a stuffy headshot to be considered appropriate.

Don’t get me wrong, I love both! I especially love when my clients choose to use the photo that makes them feel the most confident!! But my PSA for the day is to not be afraid to show your personality in the business world!

I have a confession — I almost never like those pictures of the dress on the hanger. I know. They’re on every bride’s Pinterest board.

The majority of venues don’t have a well lit, pretty, and clean space that also just so happens to have a hook or area to safely hang a very expensive gown. That means the most special dress you’ll ever own is often being precariously balanced in an area that I likely brushed dust off of. Ick.

Then there’s the issue that dresses on a hanger will NEVER look as beautiful as they do on. Something magical happens when you slip into your gown. That magic just isn’t there when it hangs there.

Sure, I have made plenty of beautiful photos with a dress hanging, but let’s get real. I get so much more emotional seeing moments like this when a brides mother is buttoning her into her gown. Pure magic.

My girl, Courtney, graduated today! I am so damn proud of her!!! In fact, words can’t accurately describe how proud I am. She is technically my sister-in-law, but she’s definitely just my sister and best friend in my eyes. She has busted her butt and graduated Cum Laude from today!!! So glad I get to celebrate you later! 💕

A quick lesson on boundaries/consent: (and a story that may slightly embarrass my brother and sis-in-law lol)

This is my brother, Zach, and his wife, Courtney! I did a quick shoot for them last week to get updated family photos. I forgot that my sister-in-law has a random phobia of people touching her elbows, so when I told my brother to grab her elbow for a shot I caught onto weird vibes. He quickly asked her if it was okay— and followed up with reassurance that he wouldn’t if she was uncomfortable.

Basically, I had such a proud big sister moment because this dude knows that even with something as seemingly harmless as grabbing your wife’s elbow can require appropriate questions and consent.

Be like Zach, y’all.

Betcha can’t tell that about 10 feet away the craziest winter storm I’ve ever seen was pouring down 😂😂

I mean… it felt like a freezing hurricane.

But Addie + Jackson weren’t deterred by the weather and trusted the process. Holy moly!!!! Can you say gorgeous?!

Y’all… so much has been going on recently.. and basically, I’ve been terrible about posting 😅

BUT some of the excitement has been provided by this lovely lady. She got married a couple of weekends ago, and I was lucky enough to be a bridesmaid!!

And now this weekend she will be graduating from Georgia Southern’s nursing program 🥳

Talk about busy!!

Love you, Cason! I am so proud of you and can’t believe everything you’re managing to scrunch into a few weeks time lol

I just was not made for cold/rainy days. Unless I get to stay inside and read a book under the covers curled up with my dog lol!

But if it does end up cold and rainy on your wedding day, don’t freak out! I always bring some clear umbrellas with me so you and your person can go play without getting soaked. And if you’re willing to be flexible, the moment it stops raining we can pop outside the second it stops raining to grab some pics in the gorgeous overcast lighting that a “gloomy” day brings.

So many people are afraid to do color for their engagement photos, but don’t feel pigeonholed into whites and blushes!! You have plenty of opportunities to don the white if you want to use your engagement pics to show off your personality!

I am in love with the deep teal and bright orange outfits that Jordan went with for her engagement session. It was perfect for fall in Savannah and complimented both her and Blake’s upbeat personalities.

I met Hannah + Alex during law school… and since no group of friends can legally have more than one Hannah without absolute chaos ensuing, I became “Kick” pretty early on. I was so freaking honored when Hannah asked me to be the photographer for her wedding next May.

BUT THEN getting this text (pic 2) from Hannah after their engagement shoot in Savannah literally made me tear up.

Knowing that people love the photos I take of them makes me so happy. I think everyone can relate to feeling a little bit of imposter syndrome now and again, so getting validation like this can literally bring so much confidence!

I can’t wait to make more magic with you guys at your wedding in May up in ATL!!

I had the luck of sitting at the table the moment these two met, and even then I could feel the chemistry. It was the week leading up to law school starting— Jordan was my new roommate & Blake was a friend of a friend. They both liked running, and I still do not but really wanted to try so I could make new friends and stay fit. We met up at a local beer spot (much more my speed) to chat about potentially running together in the upcoming weeks. Even though I never actually joined them on a run, these two became two of my absolute rocks getting through the stresses of law school.

Oh, and I was right about the chemistry. They’re getting married next year!!! I was so excited when they asked if I would shoot their engagement photos. Of course I said yes.

Congrats Jordan + Blake!! I love you guys and will happily be your third wheel any time lol (unless y’all want to go run…)

Y’all, this moment. Seth decided to do a father-daughter dance with his little girl during the reception for his wedding to Anna Leigh. I decided to catch Anna Leigh looking on as her new role as step-mom and soaking in every second. It was so dang sweet.

I know, I know, I know — pictures in color get more views/likes/etc. But I just love a classic black + white portrait!!

Maybe it’s because I started out learning photography with b+w film + spent many hours in a dark room developing them. Seeing the photos begin to appear through that development liquid was, in part, absolutely magical.

Now seeing images in black + white feels so timeless and romantic.

It POURED on Sarah and Ben’s wedding day, but thankfully we got a few minutes of reprieve magically during cocktail hour.

I walked away from this photo with a soaked b***y from becoming one with a drenched bush, but it was hella worth it!
