This 10-day event that takes place between end of September and beginning of October has for all these years been hosted in Bloemfontein, Free State Province, South Africa. The festival has since grown into a national calendar event over time, ranking along the likes of Cape Town Jazz International Festival and the National Arts Festival. Macufe has become an annual pilgrimage and attracts an incr
easing number of revelers from outside Free State Province, let alone Bloemfontein. This event has become key to the economy of Free State, as a result of growing tourism opportunities. Thus, in addition to food and beverages that are consumed in huge amounts during the festival, accommodation also benefits massively. The other growing trend is that a fair share of the visitors attend the many other events that take advantage of Macufe period, resulting in the overall entertainment scene benefiting as a whole. Due to its importance to positioning the province nationally, The Provincial Government, through the Department of Arts and Culture, plays a huge role in ensuring that Macufe is hosted successfully year after year.
