Late this evening, our team received an urgent call out from the community of Sonop near Brits. Residents had spotted a black mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) moving close to their homes, and as anyone in South Africa knows, this is not a snake you take chances with.

Jac Louis Horn responded immediately. Working in night conditions is never simple, but dealing with one of Africa’s fastest and most highly venomous snakes after dark raises the stakes even more. With steady hands, focused timing, and years of experience, Jac Louis safely located, captured, and removed the mamba without harm to the snake or the residents.

Black mambas are often misunderstood. They are not aggressive by nature; they simply defend themselves when threatened. Relocations like these are vital for community safety, but they are equally important for conservation. When handled correctly, these snakes can be moved to safer, suitable habitat where they continue to play their important ecological role.

Thank you to the Sonop residents for staying calm and calling a professional. And well done to Jac Louis Horn for another successful and humane rescue. 🐍

🤣🐍 Jac-Louis played the ultimate prank at Amanzi Wildsfees – inviting Doccie Shields onto stage under the completely innocent excuse of… well, let’s just say he “forgot” to mention the puff adder. The second Doccie spotted that snake, it was a firm “Nope!”, a nervous laugh, and an instant exit stage left.

Thanks to Amanzi Private Game Reserve and the amazing Free State crowd for an unforgettable weekend. You guys made Amanzi Wildsfees one for the books! 🐊🌿

🐾🐍Critter Chronicles Adventure with our Wildlife warrior🐍🐾

He is a bright young man who sees the world in colors most people missed. He has a big heart, an even bigger smile, and a deep love for animals. His favorite thing in the world is watching videos of snakes, lizards, and frogs on his phone. He loves their scales, their slithers, and how unique they all were. He would often sit for hours, gently tapping and swiping, giggling at the way geckos blinked or how pythons curled up to sleep.

But one afternoon, something sad happened — His phone was stolen

For him,it wasn't just a phone. It was his window to the animals he loved. He felt lost, quiet, and a little brokenhearted. He couldn't watch animal videos, and his smile seemed to dim.

Word started to spread in the small community of critter chronicles — about a sweet man who had lost something precious.

Critter Chronicles is a traveling animal rescue and education group known for bringing snakes, lizards and all sorts of wild critters to schools and events. They weren’t just about animals — they are about community.🦎

So, the team decided to do something special.

One sunny Tuesday morning, his mom told him they were going somewhere “fun.” He didn’t think much of it, just held her hand like always. But when they pulled up to the Critter Chronicles building, his eyes widened.

🐾🐍He had the chance to experience a VIP tour of the animals there. He was able to hold some of them and learn more about the animals in real life🐍🐾

Thanks to the kindness of Minuteman Press Centurion and a generous donor from Cape Town who connected with us through Minnie Marketing Co. , we were able to surprise him with:

His smile said it all! Moments like these remind us why we do what we do — empowering the next generation of conservationists, one adventure at a time. 💚

🌿🦎 WILDLIFE WARRIOR IN NEED! 📱💚

Meet one of our biggest supporters – a young gent with a HUGE love for nature and all things wild. His favourite pastime? Watching wildlife YouTube videos (especially Critter Chronicles 😉) and learning everything he can about the animals we share this planet with.

Sadly, his phone was stolen and he’s now without his prized screen-time — no more crocs, no more snakes, no more Brannas antics. 💔 His mom is doing her best, but things are tight, and they’re hoping to find a second-hand phone he can use to get back to what he loves most — learning about wildlife.

They’ve managed to put aside R500 and are looking for a decent second-hand phone with a screen big enough for his eyes (they don’t see so lekker anymore). Nothing fancy, just something that works and can bring the wild back into his world.

And here's the exciting part... 🐍🌿
This young wildlife warrior will be getting a VIP behind-the-scenes tour of Critter Chronicles on Tuesday! We can’t wait to spoil him with some wild encounters and give him a day to remember!
