🌿 A Bloom Among the Lilies – The Story of Critter Chronicles 🌿

Deep in the heart of South Africa, something beautiful is blossoming…
Just like this water lily rising quietly from the muddy depths, Critter Chronicles was born out of a simple but powerful love for nature, for wild creatures, and for the balance we’re all a part of.
It started with one small rescue, one moment of compassion for a creature in need. But like ripples on still water, that one act grew. Today, our little conservation business is making waves in ways we never imagined. From rescuing snakes in suburban gardens to educating wide-eyed children about the misunderstood beauty of reptiles, every day is a new adventure and every creature has a story worth telling.

South Africa’s wild heart beats strong through its wetlands, savannahs, and forests. It echoes in the call of a fish eagle, the slither of a puff adder, and the still strength of a crocodile sunning itself on the riverbank. But this wild beauty is under threat by fear, misunderstanding, and the encroaching spread of human development.

That’s why we do what we do. Through our rescues, outreach, and storytelling, we hope to bridge the gap between people and the wild creatures that live beside us. We believe that when you understand something, you’re more likely to protect it.
And just like that lily blooming among the lily pads, Critter Chronicles stands tall as a symbol of hope of what’s possible when passion, purpose, and wild wonder come together.

Meet Isabel, our dazzling reticulated python and undisputed crowd favorite! From the moment she glides into the room, heads turn - her sleek, patterned scales catching every beam of light as she moves with effortless elegance.

A Little About Isabel:

Origins & Size: Hailing from Southeast Asia, Isabel is one of the longest snake species in the world - already tipping the scales at a remarkable 12 feet and still growing!

Personality Plus: Don’t let her imposing length fool you. Isabel is surprisingly gentle. She loves a calm, reassuring hand and often nuzzles against her keeper when she’s in a relaxed mood.

Star of the Show: Whether it’s her smooth, rhythmic slither or that unforgettable “neck scarf” moment (when she casually drapes herself around a volunteer’s shoulders), Isabel never fails to steal the spotlight—and hearts.

🚗✨ From Tiny Tires to Wild Adventures! ✨🦎

It all started with a little Hyundai i10, a ton of passion, and a dream to make a difference. 💛 That i10 was our first Critter Chronicles rescue ride — zipping around town, rescuing snakes, spiders & all sorts of misunderstood creatures 🐍🕷️, and teaching curious kids just how cool the wild world really is! 🌍📚

We had no fancy gear, no big team — just heart, hustle, and one very determined hatchback.

Fast forward a few years, and now… meet our Mahindra bakkie! 💪🔥 Tough, rugged, and ready for anything — just like us. This shot was taken in Noenieput, Northern Cape, one of the wildest places we’ve had the privilege of exploring 🐾🌾

We’re now traveling across South Africa — from dusty farm roads to city schools — rescuing critters and inspiring young minds to respect and protect nature. 💚✨

We’ve grown, but our mission remains the same:
💥 Rescue what’s wild.
📖 Teach why it matters.
🌿 Inspire the next generation.

𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐞 – 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞

On 6 June 2025, the Critter Chronicles team received a call from Secra Security company and responded to a incident in a rural community where a Southern African Python(python natalensis) was being illegally offered for sale. Our team located the animal and, following legal and ethical protocols, immediately confiscated it to ensure its safety.

Shortly after, the individuals involved in the attempted sale demanded payment. Despite calmly explaining that it is illegal to trade indigenous wildlife, the group became agitated. Tensions escalated as nearby community members got involved, with some individuals climbing onto our rescue vehicle. With safety becoming a serious concern for both the team and the community, the crew drove directly to the nearest police station escorted by Secra Security.

Once at the station , the SAPS members ensured them that the snake will be safe with us and helped us to explain to the community members(which we then found out were minors) that trading in indigenous wildlife is a crime.

This incident serves as a clear reminder of the need for ongoing wildlife education, especially in communities where access to information is limited and financial hardship influences behaviour. As a result, Critter Chronicles will be returning to the area to provide a free educational show aimed at educating the community about the importance of conservation, animal welfare, and legal ways to interact with wildlife.

We understand that some may ask, "Why didn’t you just pay them for the snake?" The answer is simple but important. Supporting illegal wildlife sales by exchanging money only encourages more of this behaviour. It creates a harmful cycle where animals are exploited, handled inhumanely, and ultimately suffer.

Southern African Pythons are protected in South Africa and cannot be kept or sold without proper permits. They play a vital role in our ecosystem and need to be protected, not traded.

Although we are offering this educational show free of charge, donations are welcome to help us continue this important work and reach more communities in need.

Our 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐞 𝐯𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐞, and we need 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 to keep saving wildlife! The gearbox has completely failed, leaving us 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭.
