South Africa's KarenGroover grew up in Cape Town surrounded by the beautiful nature and beaches of Hout Bay. With a great interest in African rhythms she started taking drumming seriously at the tender age of 15 on a Djembe from Senegal, West Africa. She was involved in Cape Town's famous Drum Café and learnt from it's best players. Her experience of almost 20 years of drumming gave her the opportunity to hold several Team Building workshops for different commercial clients over the years.
At the age of 17 she discovered the Tech House scene of Cape Town and was part of it for many years. As one of the legendary 5 Smirnoff girls, she worked at large events such as Pharcyde and Synergy, listening and dancing to the likes of Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling and Paul van Dyk while spreading large amounts of Vodka and her positive energy to the crowd…
In 1995 Karen was introduced to Trance by a mind blowing set from Tsuyoshi Suzuki at a Vortex Trance Adventure event. Since those days she is a well known part of the Capetonian open air scene. With many years of successful partying, Karen discovered more and more her very own taste and style of music, that she really loved.
Seeking full electronic nirvana, Karen began DJing Trance in 2007 as Diane Special Kay. She has played at many parties, became resident to the Garden Route Trance Mafia, described as a versatile DJ, reading the crowd, delivering sets full of groove, always interactive, making it impossible to leave the floor, a journey from deep tribal rhythms to uplifting melodic progressive trance - always veeery dance-able...
