Schubertiade
Piano: Tinus Botha & Waldo Weyer
28 May 2022 @ 17:30, Camelot Guest House Clarens

The word “Schubertiade” is used to describe an informal, intimate celebration of the music of Franz Schubert, usually in a private residence. Due to constraints of space in most private residences, the music being celebrated would usually not include anything that calls for more than three or four players. Music for piano, four hands, is, therefore, the ideal fare for such an assembly.

When mention is made of Schubert’s output for piano, four hands, the first works that come to mind are the iconic Fantasy in f minor and the famous March Militaire. This programme features works that are heard less often but are no less masterful in conception than their more well-known counterparts. In the four works presented in this Schubertiade, the whole gamut of the composer’s expressive genius is laid bare: from the simple to the virtuosic, the introspective to the tempestuous, and the miniature to the expansive.

AFRIKAANS

So ’n byeenkoms het gewoonlik in ’n privaatwoning plaasgevind.

Programme:

1. Introduction, variations, and finale in B-flat major, D. 968a

2. Allegro in A minor “Lebensstürme”, D. 947

3. Sonata in B-flat major, D. 617
Allegro moderato
Andante con moto
Allegretto

4. Variations in A-flat major, D. 813
