So today was a little bit of nostalgic day, as I was making and baking the scones for the my pop up coffee shop, my mind wondered back to my childhood and all the memories came flooding back from what this time of year looked like and I was reminded what the heart and soul is behind Eli-Annah's Mannah. Christmas time at Nanna's house was an incredible experience. The house always smelled of cookies and the cookie tins were choc and block full of all the best cookies you could ever imagine. Lined up on top of the cupboards in the kitchen. The tiny patry held treasures we could not wait to discover. And when Nanna announced that today we were going to have tea in the garden , we counted the minutes. So tea time was a white wire table covered with a linen tablecloth, the fridge that made funny noises at night would deliver the coldest, most thirst quenching Homemade ginger beer Oupa bought fro one of his bowling buddies. Then came the magic...... homemade scones loaded with jam and cream, a slightly lopsided , super moist fudgy chocolate cake, all kinds of home made cookies From those old faithful Dutch cookie tins that Nanna specially kept for the Christmas cookies. No nothing was perfectly iced, or had tons of modeling chocolate. But man the taste!!!! It was a sensory experience from all the smells of home backed goodies that you smelled when you walked in the door. And us in our costumes, sun kissed skin, when rumbling tummies were silenced and satisfied but all the treasures Nan had hidden all over the kitchen. This is just a little glimpse of what these pictures represent, so if you craving some place to have your taste buds and nostalgic memories comforted. Pop in and let me share some of the magic, love and comfort of my childhood Christmas at Nana . If you're not in Nelspruit, do yourself a favor and go on that treasure hunt in your area and look for that tiny, one man, coffee shop, home bakery, etc, and I'm sure you'll fi nd the heart and soul and taste treasures these tiny hom bakers deliver.
