πŸ˜‹ SOUTH AFRICAN CUISINE: A MELTING POT OF FLAVOURS πŸ₯˜

South Africa is known for its vibrant cities like Cape Town and Johannesburg, safari excursions at the finest game reserves, pristine coastlines and award-winning wines. BUT... there's more!

Visit South Africa and you will be taken on a culinary journey as you taste all the unique flavours inspired by several cultures and influences. German, French, and British settlers played a part in the meals South Africans enjoy today. Other prominent influences come from the Cape Malay and Cape Dutch cooking.

Be sure to try out the following South African cuisine:
πŸ₯˜ Boboti is an oven-baked dish derived from the Cape Malay culture and consists of ground beef seasoned with curry and topped with a rich milk and egg layer.
πŸ₯˜ Braaivleis translates to barbeque meat and is prepared over an open fire-be it red meat, pork or chicken. Sometimes vegetables like corn, potatoes and onions are wrapped in foil and put on hot coals until cooked. South Africans love to braai and socialise.
πŸ₯˜ A bunny chow is a hollowed-out bread loaf filled with delicious beef or chicken curry. It originated in Durban, which is home to a big community with Indian roots. The same is done with rotis, a type of flatbread.
πŸ₯˜ Koeksisters is a South African desert made of pastry plaits that are fried and dipped in syrup. There are influences from both Dutch settlers and the Cape Malay people and today locals enjoy it as is or with a cup of strong coffee.
πŸ₯˜ Potjiekos refers to the process of preparing food in a big cast-iron pot over open flames. Potjiekos translates to "food in a pot" and ingredients like red meat, chicken, seafood and different vegetables are added and cooked slowly. This dish was especially popular among the Voortrekkers, who took part in the Great Trek in the 1800s.
πŸ₯˜ Malva pudding is an oven-baked dessert not to be missed out on! The Cape Dutch baked this dessert using flour, soda, butter, eggs, milk and apricot jam. It can be enjoyed with custard or ice cream on top.
