Happy International Nelson Mandela Day!

When purpose meets passion, coupled with as spirit of ubuntu - you get Madiba magic. I could not be more proud of our set up at Constitution Hill for our Ladles of Love Mandela Day Event. Sunset vibes and pre-event gees gave us goosebumps!

Thank you to everyone who is making this happen in the most extraordinary way. We are here today for the 6,000 children LADLES OF LOVE provide healthy meals to daily - we are their voice. ONE DAY; with ONE GOAL and ONE LOVE we aim to make every day a Mandela Day for them.

If you have not got your tickets yet - buy them at the door and join us for the time slots from 3pm onwards so you can enjoy the LOVE FEST party!

To come up with creative ideas to raise funds for Ladles of Love is no easy feat and Mandela Day is the ideal platform to not only generate funds and raise awareness, but to make a huge impact. Ali Mac’s Sunday Journal Vol. 229

Mother’s Day has to be one of the busiest and most wonderful days of the year. We get to celebrate our mothers, whether they are to still at our tables physically or not – we have marvelous memories to reflect and remember. I was blessed to have an extraordinary Mom and in less than three decades together, I learned a lifetime of wisdom.

They say we choose our mothers and today I would like to say a huge thank you to my son Matt for choosing me. You have brought so much happiness, joy and pride into my life - enriching it in ways I never imagined possible. We have walked our journey together side by side and getting to know you as you’ve matured, has been a privilege. That is apart from the fabulous fun times we’ve shared, the laughter and of course - consoling each other through the sadness and tragedies in our family.

Never did I imagine when Matt was tearing around on roller blades in stadiums or sleeping under stages that he would one day take over Rainbow, the event marketing business I founded in 1994, as Managing Director. You see in our day, the sons that went into our father’s businesses were bitterly unhappy, because in that generation fathers were fierce and hard on their sons. There must have been good stories too, which I am sure you know - but in and around our friends and family there were war stories for days!

Now things have changed, it is amazing to see how many of my friends, family and colleagues have welcomed their daughters and sons into the business. Whether the turn of the tide came from unemployment in SA or a new openminded approach with multi-generational mutual respect, who knows but I think it is amazing. Moms employing sons, dads employing daughters, family employing family – businesses are sustaining generations, meaning job creation for all.

Apart from raising my son, I have been incredibly blessed to mother and mentor many incredible young men and woman who have come into my life and enriched it in ways I could not dream of – I love each one of you.

HAPPY HAPPY 2023! We are looking forward to another year of creating marketing campaigns, events and drive purpose-led partnerships that create awareness and raise funds for our client, NPO Ladles of Love.

GOOD NEWS!

We are looking for a PR/Media Liaison Manager to work with us who will be based in the Ladles of Love Marketing Dept at the Warehouse in Epping, Cape Town.

Candidates must be passionate about purpose and want to use their skills and network to make a difference. They must have worked in media and/or have excellent media contacts to ensure great publicity and awareness of our campaigns, events and programmes.

Part of the role would involve event co-ordination and being networked with a great database of contacts to find prizes and sponsors. Being able to write and create beautiful power point/keynote presentations is key, as is being articulate and charismatic to handle media interviews when necessary.

Being money-minded and able to budget is a must working in the NPO sector and finding ways to leverage spend and secure PSA radio, print and TV campaigns is pivotal to the position.

Must be driven to see social change and the upliftment of people through the alleviation of poverty and hunger and happy to visit communities to communicate the social injustices stories to our audiences.

Today we hosted Takealot, MrD and Superbalist for an action packed hybrid TedX style event at CTICC. So great to see all the happy faces as colleagues reunited in person, after many months working remotely.

Shoutout to Siv Ngesi whose hilarious, yet informed and intelligent facilitation provided just what was needed for a successful and interactive business session.

If I reflect on nearly 28 years of Rainbow I don't see the years in the gigs we did but rather the people who have walked the journey. Our amazing clients and every single person that worked a day, a month, a year or ten - has contributed to who Rainbow is and made it richer, more resilient and magical. The relationships formed have been extraordinary and I continue to cherish the precious times and memories every day.

Creating jobs and opportunities for people to find their place in the sun has been the most rewarding part of my life. To allow someone to earn with dignity and explore their talent and sharpen their skills has been the greatest privilege of all. I have enormous respect for pioneering people who have the grit to go it on their own and start small enterprises, it is tough but at least you're master of your own destiny.

We created RAD - Realise A Dream an enterpise development competition and programme for Ladles of Love to support Food Entrepeneurs in 2021. This year we are proud to be expanding our search for Agripreneurs too with a total of four categories.

If you know of anyone that fits the bill - please encourage them to enter, it is an awesome programme that will make the world of difference to their sustainaiblity.

One week to go and we are still thousands of Teddy Bears to short to cover all the little ones in the ECDs Ladles of Love are supporting with nutritious food.

We LOVED creating this campaign and it has done wonders already with over 3000 Love Bears sold, many of which have already been gifted to kids.

The look of joy on the little ones faces when they receive their bear with their name on it is priceless. It makes all the hard work of campaigning worthwhile.

It's coming up the end of the tax year and Ladles of Love being a public benefit organisation can issue a 18A tax certificate for all LOVE BEAR purchases over R500.
