Rock For A Cause

I wanted to do a bit of an update on Rock for a Cause. As you may know, it's a concept to arrange proper paying shows, arranged by musicians for musicians.

Thank you to everyone who joined this page, I'm sure we'll still get to do a lot of shows, good paying shows sometime down the line.

For now, I'm just letting the situation surrounding the covid restrictions unfold.

Obviously there's no option at the moment to arrange gigs and shows. So, just sit tight, as soon as things clear up enough, this will be tackled and some really cool shows will be organized.

Till then, rock on, be safe, and keep your heads up.

So we've reached over 100 likes. Seems like the idea of "Rock For A Cause" is gaining some traction.

So what I would like to find out from SA Artists and musos. More specifically solo acts and duos. Who's keen to tackle this idea? We want to set up shows for January (every Saturday and Sunday) at various venues.

Just to make this very clear before anyone pounces on us. We're NOT asking anyone to play for free. What we are asking for is, to pull our efforts together, and create our own gigs and shows. market together via social and whatever other platforms we can, and sell tickets (via the Quicket website) We split 100% EQUALLY. Acts/ Sound Co/ Organizer) But it will only work if we all pull together.

We found suitable venues that only want the bar/ food takings, and are not charging venue hire.

So, lets say we can (with combined efforts) secure 300 people to buy tickets to come see 4 brilliant acts pp. That's R45 000. No venue cost, No crazy technical company eating into the takings, No selfish bar/ venue owner holding back cash that should go to the artists. We split this (however much comes in equally) Split = R7500 per act/ sound/ organizer.

Lets say only 150 people come, that's still R3750 per act. Surely with combined effort of 6 different parties, we could pull 150 people to an event? If all parties agree and pull their weight I think its not rocket-science to pull this off effectively.

Okay, so here's an idea that I have for our local (South Africa) based musicians and artists (preferably solo acts/ duos/ small bands)
Because of the fact that most of us haven't done a lot of gigs since lock down, and that there are so few gigs around at the moment, who of you would be interested in a series of fund raiser shows?
The idea is to pull in 4-6 acts/ artists per show. (looking at doing this each Saturday and Sunday afternoons)
I have access a great semi out door venue in Pta east (only taking the bar) and I've also have secured a suitable sound & lighting company for all the shows.
Patrons get to bring their own picnic baskets if they like/ or buy food at the venue (venue takes cash bar, so no drinks may be brought in)
We can all pull together in marketing on our own social platforms, selling tickets and split all proceeds equally (per act) 100% open book with regards to the takings. (We'll also limit ticket sales to stay within the health protocols and venue regulations around COVID19)
We'll set up a zoom conference meeting to throw ideas around, logistics, pricing, marketing ideas etc. Maybe this could generate a fair bit of needed cash for everyone. We're looking at doing this each Saturday and Sunday afternoon, so everyone can have a turn to perform and earn.
