Say YES to a BUDGET wedding!💵
5 Ideas for Making Ends Meet on the Big Day
There are a number of things you need to keep in mind when you decide to get married. In this economic climate, it's important to have a budget, plan properly and stick to it. Unless you're lucky enough to be a descendant of royalty, you have to stay very focused on what you need, first and foremost, before overspending on the sort of extravagance that will push that budget into the red.
1. Less can be More
The most important cost-determining factor is the size of your invite list. Gone are the days where inviting the every teacher from primary school, along with their pets, was considered a necessity. It's your special day, and you want to spend it with the people closest to you. No one can blame you for cutting costs where necessary.
I keep reminding my couples that the first real thing your guests will notice, is their allocated set placement. No need to over-pack. Nice-to-haves like detailed name tags or gift boxes are optional, rather spend on your cutlery & crockery, they will definitely see and feel the difference.🎁
Keep your stationery as limited as possible, don’t add items that won’t be needed like menu cards if it is not a plated menu option, rather do a personalised gift box with initials and a “thank you” message - something that guests will remember for a long time.🧧
2. Do-It-Yourself🛠🛍
I always love to bring in a personal touch done by my couples (DIY) or multi-purpose stationary like confetti in a bag, on this bag you can include your day program & small message from “us to you” with your preferred bio-degradable confetti.
What about a Thank you gift with the essential wedding details and a welcome message OR detailed floral design for that photobooth you wanted but did not fit in your budget.
3. Don't Lose Sight of Your Vision👀
Powerful advice I can give is to create a detailed mood board of what you like. An easy-to-use option to save it is something like Pinterest. Your wedding planner will sit with you and run through and give options and opinions, keeping trends in mind.
From choosing your colours to décor, it is an exciting time but don’t go off-track and forget your initial vision. If you feel that you are pressured to add something just because it's trendy, rather fall back on your initial ideas. You should genuinely love every little detail chosen for your big day.
🔴Limit your Wedding vendor List & do your homework before making that booking!
4. Do Your Homework📖📚
Research your desired wedding vendors and do your homework before making that booking! Most wedding vendors require a 50% non-refundable deposit that can cost you a few bucks if you haven't done the basic background-check on the vendor. Come on, it's so easy in this day-and-age! Go on social media and ask around. Google them🖱💻. Ask your wedding planner for reliable suppliers, the last thing you want is that a photographer that doesn’t pitch up! Yes, it happens more than you know.
Speaking of a photographer has to be one of the first vendors you want on the list. Remember those memories will last forever in digital form. Make sure to receive a full description of what will be included in the specific packages they offer.📸
5. Timing is Everything!📆⏰
We all know that venues have special package prices for certain days of the week. Out of experience I have seen that most venues have specials during winter months as well as specials on Fridays and Sundays. Something to consider when making your booking for that special day. There are roughly 15 summer Saturdays each year. Sure, you want a Saturday, but what if it's half-price on a Sunday? Think about that.
When selecting your perfect venue, make sure to find out what is included in the package to limit your rental list on things like cutlery and crockery etc. Pictures and video tours are a great way to understand the flow of the venue, but nothing beats an in-person visit to ensure there aren’t any hidden flaws regarding the flow and spaces that needs to be filled.🌄🌆⛪️
The last thing to consider is to have a wedding planner or on-the-day coordinator, easing the painful planning process and allowing you to just focus on enjoying your special day.
