Weddings have certainly changed shape over the years but never did we think we would be in the position that many bridal couples are currently in. Trying to decide between a minimony, eloping, micro-wedding or intimate wedding.

Not sure what we're talking about? Take a look at our blog explaining your wedding options in the times of covid.

It’s safe to say that the move towards smaller weddings was already in play before the Coronavirus hit however the pandemic has really pushed this to another level. So what does the world of weddings, post-covid, look like?

Colour is so powerful! It can affect our mood and impact us on a physiological level.

Shutterstock released their 2021 colour trend predictions. Based on what a challenging year 2020 was, the focus is on natural, earth tones, so go out and surround yourself in these gorgeous colours to create some comfort and stability.

The predictions are:
Set Sail Champagne (don't you love that name?)
Fortuna Gold (always a win for table decor)
Tidewater Green (...and breathe!)

Don't you just love February? It's the month of love and the weather is fabulous in the Western Cape making it a glorious month to choose for your wedding (in the future, that is).

Oh the first dance! One of my most favourite wedding traditions. From beautifully choreographed and perfectly executed, to a show of two left feet, some that do something so uncharacteristic or add in a bit of humour. It’s a lovely little window into couples everyday life together.

What is/was your first dance song?

Professional mobile makeup artist and hairstylist Yolande du Toit has been in the industry for over 20 years. We asked her for her top three wedding makeup tips, to set a nervous bride's mind at ease.

Yolande du Toit is a very talented hair and makeup artist that I’ve worked with since the beginning of Event Affairs’ inception. I trust her professionalism and skill so much that I recommend her to the most nervous bride. In fact, she did the makeup at my wedding, and frankly, I would not have ...

Hybrid events are the way in which the industry is going and we learned so much when we organised our first one. Pop over to our blog for a few tips on how to host a hybrid event successfully.

When we ventured out into virtual conferencing, we did not envision that our first client would commission a hybrid event across four cities, one being…

2021 Trend: Farewell to traditions.
It goes without saying that Covid-19 had us relooking every safety regulation and practice. Handshakes, hugs and blowing out candles on a cake were the first to go.

By default, we may be saying farewell to receiving lines either after the ceremony or as the couples depart. Traditionally, this was one way that ensured the bridal couple got to chat to every guest. Thankfully, smaller guest lists will now ensure that each one gets their turn.

Buffet tables and roaming trays will also decline in popularity to avoid utensil sharing and food exposure.

Finally, unassigned seating may become a thing of the past with friends and family preferring to sit together; whether during the ceremony or at the reception.

On that note and for the same reasons; 'pod seating' or smaller groupings of 4 or 6 will be more popular than longer tables.

Which tradition will you miss the most?

2021 Trend: Ditch the registry.

With so many couples having lived together prior to getting married, we started seeing a decline in bridal registry gifts many years ago. What has emerged now is couples requesting financial gifts specifically for their honeymoon.
Weddings gifts will now become memorable experiences that the couple will treasure for years to come.

Which would you prefer; a deluxe model air fryer or spotting elephant while having a bath?

2021 Trend: Concept lighting.
We've mentioned this before and yay us for calling it. Concept lighting will play a stronger decor role at weddings. Do you love it as much as we do?

When Pantone introduced yellow and grey as the colour palette for 2021, I was a little dubious. Having seen a few inspo images out there, I'm warming up to the idea slowly but surely.

What do you think about the Grey and Yellow colour palette for this year?

Here's a throwback of note to idyllic summers in Cape Town when all us event managers had to worry about was the weather. I wonder what the next presidential speech will be about? Harsher or lighter lockdown laws?

My resolution for 2021 is to be as happy as a bride on her wedding day.

Ok, we all know that's a bit of a push because the next mention of Covid regulations will probably have me fuming or rolling my eyes.

What I have promised myself though, is that I will try to roll with whatever the new year throws at me. If there's one thing 2020 taught us, it's that we don't know what's around the next corner, so why stress about the unknown.

What is your resolution and how are you doing so far?
