Just finished a very inspirational autobiography of Namibian Olympic openwater swimmer, Phillip Seidler.

Against all odds, this young Namibian worked his way to the top of long distance swimming and a place at the 2020 (2021) Tokyo Olympics finishing 16th in the 10km.

Our 2021 champion and current record holder of the Nelson Mandela Bay Bellbuoy Challenge, Phillip details his struggles and triumphs on his way to the top thanks to the unwavering support of his family and close friends.

Well done Phillip, what a champion you are. 👏

Subject: Safety Concerns Regarding Solo Swim to the Bellbuoy

Dear Swimmer's

It has come to our attention that some swimmers might be planning solo attempts at the bellbuoy swim. We feel obligated to address some significant safety concerns regarding solo attempts.

As you know, the annual event is structured with safety measures in place, including lifeguards, support boats, and medical personnel, especially equipped to handle the unspeakable. These precautions are essential for ensuring the well-being of all participants. Undertaking such a challenge solo poses considerable risks that cannot be overstated.

We have many swimmer's who have a passion for swimming, but we must prioritize safety above all else. Therefore, we strongly advise anyone against attempting the swim to the Bellbuoy independently. Without proper support and supervision (and mass participation), the dangers involved are simply too great.

Furthermore, it's important to note that recognition and acknowledgment are secondary to one's health and safety. We cannot endorse or recognize solo endeavors that compromise your well-being.

We encourage you to explore alternative ways to challenge yourself in a safe and supported environment. Your safety and health are paramount, and we are here to support you in finding fulfilling and rewarding swimming experiences.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. Your safety is our top priority, and we're committed to ensuring that you can continue to pursue your passion for swimming in a safe and responsible manner.

Warm regards,
Michael Zoetmulder
