Pizza Roll-Ups Recipe (With Cowboy Candy!)

Ingredients:
- Ready-made bread dough (available at most grocery stores)
- ½ cup tomato relish or pizza sauce (Try our SHEBA SAUCE)
- Your choice of meat (e.g., sliced polony, ham, or cooked chicken, shredded works great)
- 1–2 cups grated cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or a mix)
- Sliced jalapeños (optional, for a spicy kick)
- A little flour (for rolling)
- Non-stick spray or baking paper (for the tray)

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Dough
Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the ready-made bread dough into a large rectangle, about 1 cm thick.
(Tip: If the dough feels sticky, sprinkle a little more flour on top.)

Step 2: Spread the Sauce
Spread a thin, even layer of tomato relish or pizza sauce over the dough using the back of a spoon. Make sure to leave a small border (about 1 cm) around the edges to prevent the sauce from spilling when you roll it.

Step 3: Add the Fillings
Layer your choice of meat evenly over the sauce.
Sprinkle grated cheese over the top, then add sliced jalapeños for some heat.
(You can also add extras like sliced onions, peppers, or olives if you like.)

Step 4: Roll It Up
Starting from one long edge, gently roll the dough into a log shape — just like a Swiss roll. Press the seam gently to seal it so the filling doesn’t spill out while baking.

Step 5: Slice Into Discs
Using a sharp knife, slice the rolled log into thick discs, about 2–3 cm wide. Place each roll flat on a greased or paper-lined baking tray, leaving a little space between each one to allow them to rise.

Step 6: Add Extra Cheese (Optional)
If you like extra cheesy pizza rolls, sprinkle a bit more grated cheese over the top of each roll before baking.

Step 7: Bake
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
Bake the rolls for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.

Step 8: Serve and Enjoy
Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving.
They’re delicious warm — perfect for lunchboxes, parties, or an easy snack!

Extra Tips:
- Make it veggie: Use mushrooms, peppers, and spinach instead of meat.
- For dipping: Serve with extra tomato relish or creamy garlic sauce.
- Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven for 5–10 minutes. (Keeps up to a week in the fridge, can be frozen for up to 6 months.)

Peri Peri Chicken Livers with Sheba Sauce

Succulent chicken livers are gently simmered in a fiery peri peri blend of chili, garlic, and lemon, then brought to life with the rich depth of Sheba Sauce — a traditional African tomato and onion relish. The sweet, slow-cooked onions and ripe tomatoes balance the bold peri peri heat, creating a dish that’s hearty, vibrant, and full of soul. Best enjoyed with crusty bread, warm pap, or rice to soak up every drop of the luscious sauce.

RECIPE BELOW

Quick Peri Peri Chicken Livers with Spicy Sheba Sauce
Ingredients (serves 4)

- 500 g chicken livers, cleaned & trimmed
- 2 tbsp oil or butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1–2 fresh chilies, chopped (optional, for extra heat)
- Juice of 1 lemon (or 2 tbsp vinegar)
- 1 cup Jissie Sussie Spicy Sheba Sauce (bottled)
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
- Fresh parsley or coriander, chopped (for garnish)

Method

1. Sear the Livers
2. Heat oil or butter in a pan.
3. Fry garlic (and extra chili if using) until fragrant.
4. Add chicken livers, season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
5. Cook on medium-high for 5–7 minutes, until browned but slightly pink inside.
6. Add the Sauce
7. Stir in 1 cup of Spicy Sheba Sauce.
8. Lower the heat and let it simmer gently for 5 minutes so the flavors blend.
9. Finish & Serve
10. Squeeze in lemon juice for freshness.
11. Garnish with fresh parsley or coriander.

Serve hot with pap, rice, bread, or fries to soak up the sauce.

Our local municipality donated a few shade trees for the schools, and Uncle Thammy and I spent the morning planting them. He handled the digging like a pro, but I wasn’t just standing by – I managed to swing a shovel and fill three of the holes myself (and trust me, I felt it, my back is killing me.... 😅).

There’s something special about knowing these trees will grow and give shade to the kids for years to come.

And after the hard work? Thammy wandered off to find a beer and I went home to a well-earned boerewors roll with Peach & Chilli Chutney. Because planting trees is great… but planting trees and eating boeries? Even better. 🔥🍑
