Hi friends! I just dropped a new mix on Mixcloud, a bit faster and harder than usual but still uplifting. A teaser for my set at the upcoming Save the Rave pres. PAUL GLAZBY (UK)
https://www.mixcloud.com/Jason47/jason47-circles/
A high energy mix with tough and driving basslines, this mix is a bit faster than I usually play, peaking at around 145bpm, the combination of big synths, fat basslines and uplifting vocals is sure to rock any dance floor. Visit www.savetherave.co.za for upcoming events.
Happy Birthday to DJ Basil! One of my inspirations before I became a DJ myself was to listen to Basils sets. He was one of the pioneers of hard house in Cape Town playing those Nukleuz blue Hardbeat EP vinyls that changed our lives!
Happy Birthday to the LEGEND human being (and DJ), Basil, we wish you a wonderful day and all the success in the world.
I have another fun story for you that involves Gatecrasher, prison, and sharing a bed with another couple š
Once upon a time on another UK tour, Iād gone over to play some more gigs, one of the weekends was Euphoria in London on the one night, followed by Insomniacz at Gatecrasher in Sheffield the next day.
Adrian Gemini was living in the UK at the time and he had gotten an early start on the night with some drinks and smoking a phatty, so when I was about to start my set at Euphoria, Adrian went to go sleep it off in the car.
The dance floor arena opened up and within 20min the place was packed and going nuts, I had a lot of fun DJing. I packed up my headphones and heavy vinyl box and headed out to look for Adrian. He was nowhere to be found. I phoned, walked around all over, couldnāt find him.
I hung around till the end of the night, finally I got a phone call, he had been arrested for sleeping in the back seat of the car but the key was in the ignition to have the heater on (it was freezing). He had to spend the night in jail š
So now Iām in London, I have nowhere to go. As luck would have it, I bump into a someone I know from SA, tell him what happened, he says no problem I can come home with him and his gf till Adrian gets out of jail. We go back to their place, itās a small spot they have one bed, so we all squeeze on the bed. Im very grateful!
Morning comes, Adrian is released just in time (still with the phatty in his jacket pocket that they didnāt find) for us to jump into a car and drive all the way to Sheffield to do the gig at this event. On the way one of our friends is speeding, gets followed by the cops and luckily just gets a fine.
We get to Gatecrasher, I do the set, we walk around and check out all the arenas, there are huge name DJs on every floor, casually playing their sets.
Unfortunately we didnāt get to stay much longer as everyone that came with was on a bit of a downer after getting fines, being in jail and the long drive š Looking back, what a jol.
This photo was taken around 2001/2002. The handsome fellow sitting on the left is me. This was when I did a show on UCT radio which I absolutely loved doing. I was the only DJ to have a show on UCT radio who didnāt actually attend UCT. It aired live every Friday night from 8-10pm and we got everyone revved up for the weekend.
šš½šš½
But now for the reason Iām sharing this. Can you guess who the young man is sitting on the right? He may have been about 17 years old at the time.
One of the best hard trance DJ/producers that (in my opinion) changed the sound of hard trance forever.
I canāt remember what year this was but I would guess very early 2000ās. I went over to the UK to do a few gigs and one of them was for X-Static which was held at The Fridge in Brixton, for our friend Wayne Burgess who we recently reconnected with for our Save The Rave Halloween event a few months ago.
I remember going to play this gig with a whole crew of South Africans that I knew who were living in London at the time. Taking the London tube with a heavy box of vinyls, and getting to experience the āclub lifeā there. I had to play right after the famous Lab 4.
Watching them perform live on stage was crazy. When I say crazy I mean, Iād never seen anything like that before. It was like a scene out of the movie Aliens with strobe lights, smoke, and long dreads flying through the air. Lab 4 ended their set easily on 170bpm and I had to follow this massive act. š
I still remember my first track was Joy Energizer, because I didnāt have anything to match their bpm, so I went with the heavy bass from Joy Energizer which would still make it seem hard, but people could actually dance to it. This track had just been given to me by Ed Real after a visit to the Nukleuz records HQ so it was fresh and not out in stores yet.
From thereon it was smooth sailing and the night was a blast. What an experience. ā”ļø
I love these family photos. ā¤ļø this is our second one so far. Many more to come.

That time people thought i was superstar DJ TOM NOVY!
Tom Novy is a huge international dj/producer. One of the first vinyl's I ever bought was one of his tracks (second vinyl to be exact). Years ago around 2012/2013, Tom Novy was booked to play at an event in Cape Town at an awesome venue called SideShow.
I was booked to open for Tom and of course this was a fanboy moment for me. I had taken a few years off from DJing and came back to play as a resident at Dragon Room and then SideShow, to a new younger crowd who had no idea who Jason47 was.
When I was done, and Tom had to take over, he came to the DJ box and shook my hand, the dance floor was rocking. He looked over at the gear and said "I requested CDJ2000 this is CDJ900, it wont take my SD card (something like that). I wont be able to play"
SO... i had to continue playing for another 2 hours, all the kids in the club assumed I was Tom Novy and twitter was lit with "Tom Novy is killing it at SideShow" After my set we hung out and he was really cool about it, amazing guy, he chilled and had fun with us and a good night was had by all! :D
Many years ago, early 2000ās, we had the pleasure of hosting Eddie Halliwell in Cape Town. We were all still basically kids and we did a Cape Town / East London tour for our Tidy Trax monthlies.
We drove to EL and played at a venue on the marina and the place rocked it was so much fun. When we arrived we all went for pizza and on the way to our accommodation, Eddie wanted to stop and get more food. For such a skinny guy we couldnāt believe how much he could eat. After his set, Eddie fell asleep behind the sound system (literally)
After a successful first night in EL we drove straight back to CT to open the 96 Degrees warehouse venue. We literally arrived back in Cape Town and had to shower and go straight to the venue. Fun times!
The Cape Town djs on the tour were myself DJ Jason47, Richard Carter, Adrian Beretta, DJ Donzai

Every time I DJ people ask me why Iām not smiling or jumping up and down (or that I look like Iām such a dick š)ā¦ but this is really whatās happening, every time. š
Read till the end if you love vinyl šš½šš½šš½ Going through some vinyls for the 12 Inch Weekender - Inner City Vinyl Only Party happening next weekend. Iāll be doing a 2hr vinyl set on the Sunday late afternoon, early evening. I used to have cupboards full of vinyls but over the years I sold some and gave a lot away to friends and family. I kept about a crate full of my dearest tracks, mostly made up of trance classics or tunes that were very sentimental to me. (RIP DJ Ken) Amongst them are a few unique collector items which Iāve shown in this video. Todays DJs love to post memes about vinyl DJs, that nobody cares if you DJ on vinyl. They wouldnāt understand the difference because they never experienced spending hours in a record store looking for that āone trackā, finding collector picture discs and white label limited editions. Having experienced this is possibly one of the best things about being/becoming a DJ. Playing amazing gigs is great, but the missioning up and down, visiting record stores and going through 100 vinyls to find just 1, the house parties with friends that support you at every gig, was quite possibly the best part of it all. And THAT is why vinyl means so much to us.
