Derek started singing and playing piano at a very young age and has not left the stage since.

He performed with the Pietermaritzburg Childrens Choir while in junior school and in the KwaZulu Natal Youth Choir in High School. Since then he has taken roles in various amature productions before launching into a solo career. He now produces and performs in cabaret shows for various audiences including corporate functions and public entertainment.
