As you step out of the car, the crisp mountain air greets you, filling your lungs with a freshness you forgot existed. Justin stands at the bottom of the drive, with hands clenched, arms raised in celebratory jubilation, on your arrival.

The Red Cederberg farm is surrounded by rugged mountains, their rocky peaks touching the sky. The farm itself is a charming mix of old and new, with rustic farmhouses and modern amenities.

Justin Bonello is a gracious host who knows the land like the back of his hand. He eagerly shows you around, pointing out the various fruits and vegetables growing in the gardens, the lay of the land and introducing you to the farm animals, sheep, chickens and their local baboon troupe and of course his right hand man, Cory!

As you settle into your cozy cottage, you can't help but feel a sense of peace and tranquility wash over you. The absence of Wi-Fi and television is a welcome change, allowing you to fully disconnect and immerse yourself in the beauty of the farm and surrounding wilderness.

The farm-to-table meals at Red Cederberg are simply divine, with fresh ingredients sourced right from the farm. The flavors are simple, yet rich and satisfying, leaving you feeling nourished and content.

One of many our highlights was a hike up to the famous Wolfberg Arch, led by a local, Aron. The trail winds its way through rugged terrain, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. At the top, the arch is a sight to behold, a natural wonder that will leave you feeling awe-inspired and humbled.

After your hike, a visit to Cederberg Wines is a must. Here, you can taste some of the finest wines in the Western Cape, made with grapes grown in the unique climate of the Cederberg Mountains. If you're a fan of craft beer, you won't want to miss this trip as it has a thriving Lager, you have to taste.

Each day at Red Cederberg is a new adventure. You can hike through the mountains, explore the nearby streams, or simply relax by the fireplace with a good book. And at night, the starry sky is a sight to behold, with constellations you never knew existed.

As your time at Red Cederberg comes to a close, you can't help but feel a sense of sadness. It's hard to say goodbye to such a special place and people, but you know that you'll be back again one day. Justin and Red Cederberg, is like an old family friend - always welcoming, always comforting, and always there for you when you need it.

I headed out for dinner... A long awaited treat of an 11 course tasting menu at the uber posh Le coin Français, just around the corner from my guesthouse. It's the sort of restaurant where you have to make a reservation and pay a deposit months in advance, but it's spectacular and absolutely worth it.

With a few exceptions, I mostly opted for very creative vegetarian dishes, two of which were described to me in person, in extensive detail, by the very talented chef. I'll let the pictures do the talking, but the food was beautiful, the flavours exquisite and the creativity just off the scale. An amazing experience, with a beautiful wine pairing, that cost about 1/5 of what you'd pay for this sort of quality in Europe! An incredible treat.

Today... Ah... If Carlsberg did days! Steenberg is one of my favourite wine farms and combines a luxury hotel, a spa, a tasting room and one of South Africa's top 10 restaurants. With a voucher for the spa, which I was delighted to finally be able to go to, and I spent an indulgent 90 minutes being thoroughly pampered in the absolute lap of luxury in Steenberg's gorgeous spa. Emerging from the spa in a haze of bliss and relaxation, I treated myself to a magnificent lunch at Tryn, one of the top 10 restaurants in SA. At the time they were running a summer special offer that meant 3 courses, plus an amuse bouche and truffles afterwards! As is the case all over SA, unbelievable food and value - I started with artichoke fritters, followed by incredible local lamb and finished with an outstanding banana, popcorn, chocolate creation. After lunch, we headed up to the tasting room for a comprehensive tasting of their sparkling wines and flagship still wines... And two more bottles are heading home with me!

In the Constantia wine region at Groot Constantia South Africa's oldest wine farm, founded in 1685. The estate is absolutely stunning, with gorgeous old Cape Dutch manor houses and an airy tasting room. Having sweet talked the staff into letting me taste ALL their wines (normal tasting is 5... I think I tasted 12!) we worked our way through them... it's a tough job, but someone had to do it! I purchased a bottle of their premium Pinotage, which has the most amazing strawberry notes as well as a bottle of their amazing premium white blend. All tasted out, we retired for a lovely lunch at the estate's Jonkershuis Constantia restaurant, where I enjoyed a delicious Cape Malay curry tasting platter before a walk exploring more of the estate. Wonderful! I headed back mid-afternoon for a walk, another gorgeous day spent out!

Wine tasting day in Franschhoek! My favourite part of the wine country here.

We walked down, through the village under slightly moody skies, with pretty clouds clinging to the mountains, to the terminal of the Franschhoek wine tram, a brilliant service that shuttles wine tasters around a list of vineyards on an hourly timetable. We started at Chamonix, and had a v posh wine and chocolate pairing, I tasted their premium wines and we were even offered an impromptu cellar tour. From there, we headed to Dieu Donné Vineyards for wine, great views and a huge and delicious cheese and charcuterie platter before more tastings at Rickety Bridge Winery (amazing Cab Sauv) and Haute Cabriere Restaurant Franshoek . Don't forget to jump on the Franschoek Wine Tram

I always enjoy the wines, food and stunning beauty of Franschhoek... Heaven!

We caught an Uber over to Constantia Glen for a delicious lunch and a low key tasting of their flagship wines. Even in the slightly murky weather of the morning, Constantia Glen is a spectacularly beautiful place, with neat rows of vines adorning rolling hills, set against a backdrop of mountains. Glorious lunch, no matter the weather!

If you are travelling up the West Coast and in need of a breakfast or lunch, this boutique and out of the way restaurant is a little oasis! We were pleasantly surprised by the design of the eatery located in the small town of Vredenberg. We will definitely be using this as a pit-stop on future road trips!

One our very favourite restaurants in Durbanville Winelands. The Farm Eatery at Diemersdal located in the old stable of the estate, offers a Tapas menu created by the very talented Chef Martin De K**k. With inspiring to the darn right delicious taste of asia, french and spanish themed dishes. You can choose six tapas dishes or select the chef's menu of up to seven dishes. Easily shared by two, then paired with one of Diemersdal wines, you are in for one of the best foodie evenings!
