So we had a devastating fire last night which gutted our offices. But by Grace the farmhouse and the venue is completely unscathed.

VLASKYWE - TROUVROU

200 g Cream Cracker beskuitjies
1 l melk
250 ml suiker
60 ml botter of margarien
120 ml koekmeelblom
100 ml mielieblom
10 ml vlapoeier
2 ml sout
100 ml koue water
3 eiers, geskei
5 ml vanilla
500 ml versiersuiker, gesif
40 ml kookwater

1. Smeer ‘n vlak glasbak van 35 x 25x 5 cm, of bespuit dit met ‘n kleefwerende middel. Pak 15 van die beskuitjies in rye van 5 x 3 op die boom van die bak en sorg dat die halveringslyne van die beskuitjie almal in dieselfde rigting lê.
2. Verhit die melk in ‘n groot kastrol tot kookpunt. Voeg die suiker en botter of margarien by en roer tot gesmelt. Haal dit van die stoof af.
3. Meng die koekmeelblom, mielieblom, vlapoeier, sout en koue water deeglik in n aparte bak.
4. Voeg die eiergele by en klits goed.
5. Klits 250 ml van die warm melk mengsel geleidelik by die vla mengsel. Gooi dit terug in die kastrol by die res van die melk. Roer aanhoudend oor lae hitte en kook sowat 5 minute tot dik. Haal van die stoof af en roer vanilla by. Klits die eierwitte totdat dit sagte punte vorm. Vou die eierwitte liggies met ‘n metaallepel in die vlamengsel in.
6. Gooi die warm vla oor die beskuitjies in die bak. Bedek die vla met ‘n verdere 15 beskuitjies in rye van 5 x 3 en sorg dat die halverwingslyne in die selfde rigting is as die onderste laag.
7. Laat die vlavulsel afkoel en plaas dit in die koelkas om heeltemal koud te word.
8. Meng die versiersuiker en kookwater tot ‘n smeerbare versiersel. Gooi dit stadig oor die kraakbeskuitjies en smeer dit ewe dik.
9. Hou dit in die koelkas tot benodig. Sny die vlaskywe so groot soos ‘n halwe beskuitjie wanneer jy dit opdien.
10. Dit lewer 30 vlaskywe.
