Proof that cricket can be played anywhere by anyone. Great to see Jenny Thompson Her World Cricket Tour as she navigates the globe raising awareness and bringing cricket to new converts!

It's a great time to be a female cricketer in Guernsey. The juniors are developing & the women are coming off a 3-0 win against Isle of Man, face inter-island rivals Jersey soon, then head to Oslo for the Nordic Cup.

"There wasn't much money for women's cricket in the past, they were an afterthought," says Lee Forshaw, Guernsey Cricket Development Officer.

"We've driven it forward now with three of us in the office who are like: 'The men are doing it, we are doing it, we've now got a budget & there's money to spend.'"

While the women raised £6000 over the winter from selling fundraising tickets, Guernsey Cricket are helping support the Nordic Cup trip & all the female programs are sponsored by financial group Aspida.

One challenge as a female player is how to play matches in Guernsey. "If they want to go & play domestic cricket they then need to jump into one of the men's sides," Lee says. "The trouble is that they turn up & don't get the opportunities that they need.

"The players do have brilliant access to facilities, coaches & grounds," he adds. "But what they do lack is opposition & the flight costs to come across is not cheap & if you want to take a team away it's quite a few thousand pounds.

"That's what we've got to work on a little bit but it's heading in the right direction."

In a world where so women are overlooked time & again by their Boards in terms of funding & opportunities, it's so nice to take a moment to celebrate one which respects its women.

Keep that up Guernsey Cricket - & I hope other countries take some inspiration! 🌟🏏🇬🇬

Vets cricket has brought me back to the game I am passionate about and given me opportunities
to represent my province, play against some of my hero’s and most importantly create new friendships and lifetime memories.
