Almost everyone knows that prior to baking I was working in call centres , teaching English online, doing promotions. I really didn’t have any business knowledge.

Here are some things that I have learned that have been so helpful. I paid myself a salary. Paying yourself a salary is not transferring money to another account and referencing with salary (this is what I did for a year due to lack of knowledge) , you have to pay yourself as a RECIPIENT not a transfer to another account. Pay yourself a salary, no matter how small it is, but do it consistently.

I started making myself a pay slip (with the help of a book keeper) This will help you to get personal credit, like contracts , accounts, being self employed is difficult when you trying to get things on credit but when you have a pay slip it’s much easier. This will also show that your business has expenses and can actually pay them. I did this for about 6 months.

By paying myself a salary I was able to get a business credit card and over draft. This is now creating the businesses credit history which will also open other doors like business loans, fundings etc. I know some people already know this but I’m sharing with bakers that are starting off just like me and navigating this business thing ❤️
