DID YOU KNOW THAT THE BIGGEST HINDRANCE TO ZAMBIAN TALENT IS OUR COLLECTIVE INFERIOR MINDSET AS ZAMBIANS?

I do not know the connection, but somehow, somewhere between the time we learned that we were supposed to be the kindest, most hospitable group of human beings on the planet to visitors from outside, we also picked up the worst form of inferiority complex.

One wise observer put it this way: "It is in our collective traditional cultures that seeks to honour visitors more than our own. As such visitors leave having experienced the best of us and yet we are relentlessly cruel towards each other.".

We Zambians don't believe in ourselves. It usually takes outsiders to come and tell us how lucky we are to have had rare, strong Zambian individuals among us, individuals that have gone on to change the world and yet are highly rejected, trampled on, pulled down, and called names back home.

We now have a new generation of Zambians. Across the different spheres of human influence, we have young Zambians that with our support, can be world beaters.

We have that gifted singer who just needs better producers and handlers. We have that meticulous Accountant that needs money to complete their professional Exams. We have that young businessman who needs someone to trust them with their first Purchase Order. Yes, We have that who just needs to land the next big role to be the new Cele.

I see you young people. I see massive potential. Let us cast aside this useless PHD syndrome that has not gotten us anywhere for now close to 60 years of independence and let's push ahead, together towards a future of achievements for Zambains and Zambia.

DEALING WITH TEMPORAL STRUGGLES

When I was a kid, one of the most challenging things was being sent to buy a small package of mealie meal called "Pamela" from the market.

As a teenager, there was a deep desire to hide your family struggles from your friends. And the "Pamela meal" was a visible sign that you are in deep financial trouble.

And as a teenager, it was very difficult to come to terms with that. The fact was that we were really struggling but making it visible was embarrassing.

Mum would ask, "so, who did you expect to buy this mealie meal if not you?" And I would answer like, "but mum, why didn't you buy when you were coming?"🀦

Even though I was responding like that, I was so hungry that I needed a meal like immediately. I needed some meal immediately because there was no breakfast and lunch, and the time for Pamela could be like 17:00hrs.

But why did I feel that way? Wasn't eating a meal more important than what my friends would think about the Pamela?

The meal was important. But I was childish.

Sadly, even as we become adults, such levels of childishness still exist. Many of us avoid doing the things which will help us because of what people with think.

There are jobs we don't want to do because of what our friends will think, even though those jobs will MOVE US OUT OF THE TEMPORAL STRUGGLES.

There are businesses we feel are embarrassing to do because of what our friends will think or say. And yet, it's the same businesses that will lift us from the pit of temporal struggles.

Temporal struggles are common in all of us. They are just different. If you care so much about what people will say, you will make your temporal struggles PERMANENT.

Focus on fixing the temporal struggles instead of hiding them. The energy you are using to hide your temporal struggles can be used to fix them.
