So I came across this post today on Facebook and I thought to share my two cents on this matter.
Brides/Grooms please please please, if you do not have enough money to have a" wedding " please do not resort to borrowing. This is because firstly you are starting a new home which needs finances to be sustained. Secondly it is not advisable to borrow money for consumption rather it's better to invest. Now if you begin your home with debt chances are repaying this loan will be stressful and you do not want to start your home that way. Some years back I read a story of a couple from Namibia that commited su***de after their wedding because they could not pay back their loan. This couple had hoped that they would get lots of money as gifts on their wedding day which is not usually the case.
In Zambia we have other traditional "weddings" such as Chilanga Mulilo, Viphiko, Kitchen party etc which are more affordable versions of the so called "wedding". Remember what is important is a blessing from God and legally binding your union at the civic center. Otherwise most people just want to come and eat your rice and judge everything about your wedding.😜😀
But again if you can afford it please have as huge a wedding as you want just DO NOT BORROW. If you do borrow, let it be very minimal.
