My background is in the arts, I was intending on a career in academia when I was seduced by food. Academic training taught me rigour and attention to detail, an appreciation of the beautiful and the pursuit of originality. We eat Hot Cross Buns on Good Friday, the day of Jesus' crucifixion, as a reminder of the sacrifices he made for us.
The cross on the bun represents the Crucifix, the spices represent the spices that would've been used in his embalming. And just as the dough rises, we too must prepare for his Resurrection on Easter Sunday!
