Yesterday Croatia celebrated its National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai. The celebration began at the Al Wasl Plaza with the raising of UAE’s and Croatia’s flags.

His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Commissioner General of Expo 2020 Dubai, welcomed Andrej Plenković, Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia.

“Each country must focus on innovations to steer its development, find its niche in the world, and ensure a prosperous future to its people. This is why Croatia, as its main topic, chose the theme Croatia – Inspiring Great Minds”, said Andrej Plenković in his speech.

The official ceremony ended with a performance by the ensemble LADO UNESCO, which demonstrated Croatia’s rich cultural heritage.

After the official ceremony, Andrej Plenković welcomed HE Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan to the Croatian Pavilion.

Andrej Plenković also met with Reem Al Hashimi, Minister of State for International Cooperation of UAE and Managing Director for EXPO 2020 Dubai, in the UAE Pavilion.

As part of their visit to Expo 2020 Dubai, the Croatian delegation led by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković visited the KSA Expo 2020.

Andrej Plenković showed Croatia’s solidarity with Ukraine by visiting their pavilion.
“Croatia has taken in over 2000 Ukrainian refugees, and does not plan to stop offering assistance,” said the Prime Minister.

In the afternoon, the Croatian Pavilion hosted a bilateral meeting between the USA delegation led by Secretary Gina Raimondo, US Secretary of Commerce, and the Croatian delegation led by the Prime Minister of Croatia.

A business forum, held by the Prime Minister, focused on investment opportunities in various sectors, including tourism and hospitality, IT, and agriculture.

The National Day celebration ended at Jubilee Stage with a performance by LADO Electro, the ensemble that merges traditional national folklore with electronic music.

Croatian Tradition on the World Stage

National Day of the Republic of Croatia at EXPO2020

On 6 March 2022, Croatia will be the centre of attention at Expo 2020 Dubai, and will demonstrate the richness of its cultural heritage through a series of music performances. Alongside the performances by LADO, the Croatian National Ensemble of Folk Dances and Songs, in the very heart of EXPO 2020, the Al Wasl Dome, the visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the spectacular projection show of the Croatian flag.
The programme consists of two parts, the protocolar one and the entertaining performances at different locations of the event. The presentation of Croatian intangible heritage will be marked by two major evening concerts, while smaller ensembles will additionally convey the atmosphere of folk customs through a series of daytime performances.

The delegation was led by Mr. Tomislav Ćorić, PhD - Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development in the Government of the Republic of Croatia.

The gathered guests were also greeted by Dr. Ivić Pašalić - President of CEA - Wood and Paper Industry Association and by Sheikh Mubarak Ali Abdullah Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Bluesun Hotels.

Yesterday, on Valentine's Day, men gave Licitar hearts to their special ladies. Happy couples also received Podravka gift bags filled with Croatian products.

Licitar hearts were traditionally used by young men to express their feelings towards some lucky girl on Valentine's day. These little red hearts would represent a special sign of devotion and attention.

As part of the World Exhibition Expo 2020 Dubai, the Croatian Pavilion hosted a specialized business workshop "Full of well-being" on the topic of health tourism yesterday evening. The workshop was organized by the Croatian Tourist Board, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and with the support of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce on the occasion of the Health & Wellness Week.
The guests were greeted by the Director of the Croatian Tourist Board Kristjan Staničić, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports Tonči Glavina, and the President of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce Luka Burilović.

About 15 of the most important Croatian representatives of health tourism providers, top experts in various fields of medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and the spa and wellness industry attended the workshop. Holders of international certificates, winners of prestigious awards, and leading Croatian entities in the implementation of certain medical procedures presented their offer.

CROATIA INSPIRING CHAMPIONS!

Blanka Vlašić is a Croatian former track and field athlete who specialized in the high jump. She is a two-time world champion and double Olympic medallist (Beijing 2008 – silver medal and Rio De Janeiro 2016 – bronze medal). Blanka Vlašić holds a second highest female jump of all time with her personal best of 2.08 m. After the surgery in 2006., Blanka returned and took the silver medal at the World Indoor Championships. The 2007 season signalled a strong run of form: she won at the 2007 World Championships, became the indoor world champion in 2008 and her winning streak came to an end with a narrow loss at the Beijing Olympics, where she took silver. She became World Champion for a second time in 2009. Her numerous awards also include the IAAF World Athlete of the Year 2010 and the European Athlete of the Year Trophy (2007, 2010).

Ivan Ljubičić is a former professional tennis player. He reached a career-high (ATP) world No. 3 singles ranking on 1 May 2006. His career highlights include reaching a Grand Slam semifinal at the 2006 French Open, and an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title at the Indian Wells Masters in 2010.
Ivan Ljubičić, together with Mario Ančić were the Croatia`s winners at the 2005 Davis Cup, their first ever title, where they triumphed over the Slovakian Davis Cup team in the final. After retirement, Ljubičić is engaged as a coach and manager for several top 5 Worlds players.

CROATIA INSPIRING CHAMPIONS!

On the 31st of January you will have a chance to meet the Braća Sinković - Sinkovic Brothers, who are the most successful Croatian Worlds rowers in past decade. Martin and Valent Sinković won the gold medals in Men's double sculls at the Summer Olympics in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. They had previously won the silver in the men's quadruple sculls at the 2012 Summer Olympics with David Šain and Damir Martin. The Sinković brothers were the first men's double sculls team to go under 6 minutes for their race time.
