My Abu,

Not a day goes by when I don’t think of you & see you in the things that surround me.

Waking up in the morning, how you used to wake me.

Driving in the morning how you used to drive me to school.

That piece of pastry in a bakery that we would’ve bought together

That 1 cup of tea accompanied by butter & sugared toast

Your love for journaling and writing

Every time I go into a book shop, I remember all the books you bought for me.

When I see cute stationery I rejoice our mutual love for collecting :)

Yes I have more pens & note books than I need Abu 😊

When I meet new people & say that first hello, I remember how charming you were with all

When I walk on a lovely street in the evening solitude, I go back to our long walks. You holding nub hand and then as time went on holding my heart.

When I go visit a cafe I smile & think how much you would’ve loved being there.

Afternoon tea & scones would’ve been your favorite Abu

When I walk into a hotel lobby I smile thinking how we loved the tea & sandwiches at PC & how cross mummy used to get knowing we splurged 😂

When I see Art it takes me back to all the Art galleries & exhibitions we visited together.

When I see a father with his granddaughter I think of you & Lana & what a beautiful bond you shared with her.

When I go to my flower shop I think of you smiling down with that proud smile that you had when you got really happy.

Always with a misty eye .

Sometimes I watch Come September & feel happy just like we did when you first showed it to me.

It started very very early for us. I would say just when we learned to walk. We walked with the most exciting floral happenings around. Thanks to my dearest aunty Nilofer who brought flowers into all our lives and taught the skill of arranging beautifully to women all over Pakistan. She was the first Ikebana teacher who taught the art in Pakistan. I can’t even begin to explain the euphoria experienced collecting & cutting flowers & plants with mummy, waiting to go for installations & exhibits. There was school to be missed , mornings spent at hotels or gardens & the exciting prospect of Gymkhana pastries & tea brought by Mahmood uncle for the Flower ladies as they created Majestic one of a kind floral displays.
