Ah, the word "journey." It sounds like something straight out of a fantasy novel, doesn't it? But I assure you, my path to becoming an event planner was far from mythical. In fact, it all started with some good old family gatherings.
Let me paint the picture for you. Envision a large, lively, and artistic extended family. The kind of family where there are more aunts, uncles, and cousins than you can count on your fingers and toes. I'm fortunate to have such a beautiful family and supportive friends who have always encouraged me through thick and thin. It was the sense of fulfillment I experienced when an event turned out successfully. There was nothing quite like witnessing our family and friends come together, sharing laughter, and having a wonderful time. It was as if we were all part of something greater than ourselves.
Reflecting on the past 10 years, I realize that those early experiences set me on a path that eventually led me to become an event planner. I mean, it's not that surprising when you consider that I spent most of my childhood surrounded by media professionals due to my father's work at Pakistan Television and his production house.
Now, as a professional event planner, I get to relish that same sense of joy and satisfaction every time I contribute to organizing an event. Of course, there are still moments of chaos and stress (like when our staff car had an accident, the DJ played the wrong song, or the entertainer fell ill). However, it's all worthwhile when I see people having a great time and creating enduring memories.
Let me emphasize that event planning isn't always as glamorous as it appears. In fact, it can be quite messy. I vividly recall an event where we had set up beautiful decorations at Barsha Pond Park in Dubai. But as soon as the food was served, the wind picked up, and we found ourselves in a minor tornado of napkins and plates swirling around us. It was like a scene from a cartoon. We had to hastily relocate to the nearest restaurant to salvage the food, decorations, and, most importantly, our dignity.
Another unforgettable event was the grand opening of a dental clinic in Jumeirah, Dubai. Our client was an Instagram influencer too, who promised unlimited mobile phone giveaways to the guests on his page. However, we were unprepared for the influx of 10,000 mobile phones. It felt like we were in a poorly scripted action movie, with the villain's nefarious plan being thwarted by technical glitches. Thankfully, the situation was resolved with the help of the police.
Amidst all the chaos and madness, there are also moments of pure joy and fulfillment. Like when we organized a wedding for a couple who had been together for over 5 years. They had never been able to afford a lavish wedding, so we made sure to make it extra special for them. Witnessing their faces light up as they exchanged vows in front of their loved ones was a truly magical moment in Palm Beach.
So, there you have it - a brief glimpse into the world of event planning. It's a profession that demands patience, creativity, and a great deal of flexibility. However, it also allows us to craft unforgettable experiences and turn people's dreams into reality. And that, my friends, is why I cherish my job.
