A graduate from the Armed Forces Medical College (O Batch), Pune India, post graduate from BJMC, Pune and a doctorate in Allergy & Immunology from Nippon Medical School, Tokyo Japan, Prof. Ruby Pawankar is Executive Director and Immediate Past President, Asia-Pacific Association of Allergy Asthma and Clinical Immunology (APAAACI). She served as President, APAAACI (2018-2023), President, World Allergy Organization (WAO) (2012-2014), Council Member, Collegium Internationale Allergolicum (2016-2022). Her academic affiliations include Professor, Div. Allergy, Department of Pediatrics, Nippon Medical School, Tokyo, Japan, Guest Professor, Showa University School of Medicine, Tokyo, Japan, Honorary Professor, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China, and Honorary Professor, China Medical University, Taiwan.
Prof. Pawankar is Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP, UK), Steering Committee, FOCIS, and has held positions in many regional/global organizations She is Co-Chair, G20-T20India TF3 on LiFE, Resilience and Values for Well-Being and member G20 India Women Empowerment group on Women in STEM. She has been recognized with numerous awards including the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award 2010, the World Allergy Organization Gold Medal in 2018, the International Distinguished Fellow Award of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology in 2006.
She is an avid educator, mentor and has organized several educational/ training programs/ congresses, centers of excellence. Her main areas of research and lectureship are on the gut microbiome and allergy/obesity in early life, impact of environment on health trajectories, climate change, biodiversity, one health, microbiome in health and disease, epithelial barrier and inflammatory biomarker, wellness, and women in STEM. Her scientific publications have led to an βh-index of 91 and 517851 citationsβ and she is Editor of several books and peer-reviewed journals. She is a co-author and chair of several international guidelines in allergy and immunology. Her leadership is in medical education and research, mentoring, career development, leadership, gender equity. She engages with global bodies like the UN, WHO, and UNEP especially on Climate change and One Health and focuses on bringing science to action via public policy. She was an expert panelist at United Nationβs Rio+20 Biodiversity on Environment and Health and has lectured at scientific meetings in over 60 countries.
