BANDORAMA COMPETITION - Adherence to Competition Rules: A Call for Fairness and Integrity
The XL Band wishes to address a matter of utmost importance regarding the recent competition in which we participated. The integrity of any competition is founded on the consistent application and enforcement of established rules. It is with great concern that we bring to light the non-compliance with the criteria outlined for the event, particularly concerning the use of prohibited elements such as stems and sequenced musical instruments.
The competition rules explicitly state the following penalties:
· Failure to start at the scheduled time – 2 points deduction
· Playing over the allotted time – 2 points deduction
· Use of stems and/or sequenced musical instruments (phrases, lead lines, etc.) is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification.
These rules are designed to ensure a level playing field, emphasizing the importance of natural rhythm and professionally played music with acoustic instruments, as demonstrated by bands like XL. unfortunately, it has come to our attention that the winning bands did not adhere to these regulations.
In accordance with the rules, any band found in violation of the prohibition on stems and sequenced instruments should face disqualification. Allowing such a breach to go unaddressed not only undermines the fairness of the competition but also discredits the efforts of those who fully complied with the guidelines.
We have yet to receive any formal response regarding this serious issue, despite bringing it to the attention of the committee on the night of the event. It was acknowledged by the Chairman that an error was made in providing the judges with the incorrect criteria, a mistake for which he apologized. This error, which directly impacted the judging process, has yet to be rectified, leaving a cloud of doubt over the legitimacy of the results.
The XL Band performed in strict accordance with the contracted criteria, and we expect the committee to take swift and transparent action to correct this oversight. The credibility of the competition is at stake, and it is imperative that the rules be upheld to maintain the trust of all participants and the public.
While we have exercised patience in allowing the committee time to resolve this issue, the continued delay is unacceptable. We demand a full and satisfactory resolution to this matter. The XL Band's reputation, built on years of dedication and adherence to the highest standards of musicianship, must not be tarnished by the committee's failure to enforce its own rules.
We appreciate the public’s support and understanding as we seek to ensure that justice is served, and the true spirit of competition is preserved.
