Princess Juliana International Saint-marteen’s

The Princess Juliana International Airport is located in the Dutch part of the island of St. Martin, in the West Indies, west of the city of Philipsburg and southwest of Marigot. Although it is in the territory of the Netherlands, the airport also serves the French part of the island which nevertheless has its own airport, that of Grand-Case Espérance, of smaller size and intended for local services. It was severely damaged by the passage of Hurricane Irma on September 6, 2017.

The airport was opened in 1942 as a military airfield, before becoming a civilian airport the following year. It is famous for its track located right on the water, with a very low approach to less than three meters above a famous beach on the island, Maho Beach. In terms of aircraft movements, it is the second largest airport in the Lesser Antilles, after the Luis Muñoz-Marín International Airport in Puerto Rico. It bears the name of the former Queen of the Netherlands Juliana. It is a correspondence platform for the company Winair and the major entry point of the Lesser Antilles Windward Islands.
