The gallery gugging is one of the most important international venues for the presentation and creation of unspoiled, original art with its own formal language. The French artist Jean Dubuffet defined this style as art brut. For 25 years now, the gallery has been exhibiting works by the Gugging Artists and their international colleagues with the aim of making their work more visible within the framework of contemporary art and promoting previously unknown artists.

Today, we honour the birthday of one of Art Brut’s most iconic figures—August Walla, whose legacy continues to shape the way we understand artistic freedom and inner vision.
Walla transformed everything around him into part of his cosmos: walls, doors, furniture, photographs, language, even his own body.
His symbolic universe was vast, poetic, and deeply personal—filled with invented gods, dual identities, and powerful contradictions.

AUGUST WALLA AT THE GRAND PALAIS
We’re proud to see August Walla included in “Art Brut. In the Intimacy of a Collection. Decharme Donation to the Centre Pompidou”
The exhibition presents over 400 works from Bruno Decharme’s landmark donation to the Centre Pompidou—establishing one of the most important public collections of Art Brut in the world. Walla’s iconic visual language, full of symbols, reinventions, and mythic dualities, holds a powerful presence in the show.

Ramona has been closely connected to Galerie Gugging for many years. Her expressive, emotionally charged creations reflect a deeply personal world—inviting viewers to experience vulnerability, intensity, and transformation through line and form.
This residency marks a new chapter in her artistic journey, and we’re glad to support her continued evolution.
