One of the world’s first addresses for art brut and self-taught art. Der französische Künstler Jean Dubuffet definierte diese Stilrichtung als Art Brut.

Die galerie gugging zählt international zu den bedeutendsten Präsentations- und Entstehungsorten unverbildeter, ursprünglicher Kunst mit der ihr eigenen Formensprache. The gallery gugging is one of the most important international venues for the presentation and creation of unspoiled, original art with its own formal language. The French artist Jean Dubuffet defined this style as art brut. For 25 years now, the gallery has been exhibiting works by the Gugging Artists and their international colleagues with the aim of making their work more visible within the framework of contemporary art and promoting previously unknown artists.

Today, we welcome you to ARTvent! We open our doors for a day of art, community and winter spirit at galerie gugging.

During ARTvent, visitors can explore our current exhibition "highly personal, curated by juergen maurer," featuring a powerful selection of works that reflect individual vision and artistic voice.

This year we are honoured to also present three rare works by Heinrich Reisenbauer, created in 2012, 2022 and 2023. These pieces show his unmistakable rhythm of repetition and form, each one marking a moment in his long and influential career. Seeing them together offers a quiet look at how his visual language evolved over more than a decade.

Join us at the gallery to experience these works in person, discover the exhibitions and enjoy the atmosphere of ARTvent.

This week, we visited Marko Djurdjevic in his studio, together with a small group of collectors and supporters of his practice.

It was a rare chance to step inside his process, see works in progress and hear him speak about how his lived experiences shape the energy and emotion in his paintings and prints.

Marko’s work carries a strong presence both in the studio and on the wall. Each piece reflects his ability to move between control and instinct, turning raw experience into powerful visual form.

Today we share an important moment at galerie gugging.

After taking time to carefully settle Heinrich Reisenbauer’s estate following his passing earlier this year, his artworks are now available again.

Mr. Reisenbauer was one of the foundational voices of gugging. His precise repetitions, quiet patterns, and unmistakable graphic language shaped not only his own career but also the wider understanding of Art Brut. His works remind us how attention, rhythm, and patience can become a deeply human form of expression.

We celebrate his life, his impact, and the decades of creativity he shared with the world.

For those who have been waiting to collect his work or discover it for the first time, selected pieces can now be viewed online and in the gallery.

His legacy continues in every line, every form and every artwork that carries his name.

We are proud to present works by Roger Ballen Photography, whose unmistakable visual language merges photography with drawing and charged spaces.

These images mark an important shift in photography, where staged interiors and art brut sensibilities push documentary realism toward the subconscious and the surreal.

This selection shows a curated set of artworks from his series Outland, Shadow Chamber, and his recent colour compositions, available to purchase in person at galerie gugging or via DM or email.

Leopoldimarkt at Stadt Klosterneuburg is almost here, and this year our artist Marko Djurdjević joins the celebration with a new woodcut, “Der Rutsch ins Glück” / “The Slide into Happiness”.

Inspired by the legendary 1.000-Eimer-Fass and the Fasslrutschen tradition, Marko’s print brings together history, local ritual, and his own presence in the scene. Look closely and you will find small symbols that carry stories from Klosterneuburg’s past into the present.

This limited edition woodcut print on paper (22 x 20,2 cm, edition 02/25) will be available at the Leopoldi market in Klosterneuburg this weekend!

The exhibition “A Day With David Bowie” opens 18 November 2025 at Pineapple Park, Munich, running until 28 February 2026. It features black and white photographs by Christine de Grancy, taken during Bowie’s 1994 visit to the artists in gugging, a visit that profoundly influenced his creative process.

Soon after, Bowie released his acclaimed concept album Outside (1995), which explored themes of psychology, identity, and the blurred boundaries between art and life. These ideas were inspired in part by his experience at gugging and its artists’ authentic, unfiltered approach to creation.

Today, galerie gugging continues that same spirit of freedom and expression, representing global leaders in Art Brut and self-taught art, those whose works transcend convention and expectation.
