The gallery gugging is one of the most important international venues for the presentation and creation of unspoiled, original art with its own formal language. The French artist Jean Dubuffet defined this style as art brut. For 25 years now, the gallery has been exhibiting works by the Gugging Artists and their international colleagues with the aim of making their work more visible within the framework of contemporary art and promoting previously unknown artists.

Posted • Our upcoming exhibition "abstract.!? between figuration and abstraction" (19.10.23 - 17.3.24) focuses on the abstract aspect of Gugging’s Art for the first time. Based on figurative depictions, the five artists presented here turn away from visible and tangible reality. The real object, frequently a human figure, fades into the background with line and colour acquiring greater significance, extending to pure abstraction. The exhibition looks into this interplay between figurative and abstract elements.

❗️”Mental health is a universal human right“, the theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day – raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health❗️
For 29 years now, the gallery gugging has been exhibiting unspoiled, original art with its own formal language – Jean Dubuffet defined this style as art brut – with the aim of making the artists more visible within the framework of contemporary art and promoting previously unknown artists.
Representatives of art brut continue to enlighten the world with the aesthetic freedom that so many “mainstream” artists strive for. Famously, Picasso said “it took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child”. Perhaps the key to their originality involves their detachment from the mainstream and unaware of trends. Their aesthetic is a true interpretation of how they experience the world and should be critically viewed as such.

L’esposizione del MUSEC curata da Francesco Paolo Campione e Nora Segreto, presenta 12 opere di grandi dimensioni realizzate da Simone Pellegrini (Ancona, 1972) tra il 2007 e il 2022. L’indagine pittorica di Pellegrini è volta alla ricerca di un nuovo alfabeto fatto di forme e di segni impresse su grandi fogli di carta da spolvero con delle matrici prodotte dall’artista stesso. Fonti della sua ispirazione creativa sono scritti filosofici, mistici, scientifici e poetici che liberano l’immaginario del suo mondo interiore.

Our Story

Die galerie gugging zählt international zu den bedeutendsten Präsentations- und Entstehungsorten unverbildeter, ursprünglicher Kunst mit der ihr eigenen Formensprache. Der französische Künstler Jean Dubuffet definierte diese Stilrichtung als Art Brut. Seit nunmehr 25 Jahren stellt die Galerie Werke der Künstler aus Gugging und ihrer internationalen KünstlerkollegInnen mit dem Ziel aus, deren Schaffen im Rahmen der zeitgenössischen Kunst sichtbarer zu machen und bisher unbekannte KünstlerInnen zu fördern. Daran arbeiten wir mit großer Begeisterung und es macht uns Freude, Kunstinteressierte und Sammler als Partner bei ihrer Passion zu begleiten.

Die galerie gugging ist Teil des Art Brut Centers Gugging, bestehend aus dem Haus der Künstler, dem offenen atelier gugging und dem museum gugging. Weltweit einzigartig ist die Nähe von Entstehungsort der Werke der Künstler aus Gugging und deren Präsentation. In der wunderbaren Umgebung mitten im Wienerwald, wird täglich künstlerisch gearbeitet und neue Werke entstehen.

The gallery gugging is one of the most important international venues for the presentation and creation of unspoiled, original art with its own formal language. The French artist Jean Dubuffet defined this style as art brut. For 25 years now, the gallery has been exhibiting works by the Gugging Artists and their international colleagues with the aim of making their work more visible within the framework of contemporary art and promoting previously unknown artists. We work on it with great enthusiasm and it gives us pleasure to accompany art lovers and collectors as partners in their passion.
