Sports and especially racing cars have always been a synonym for technical development and innovation. The past decades saw amazing innovations ensuring excitement. Nowadays a new type of fuel is showing up - Sustainable Fuels. From 2024 onwards we have set up a contract whith which are one of the world’s leading producers of E-Fuels especially in historic racing. From 2024 on, every car racing the Gaisbergrennen will get 20 litres of E-Fuel by our partner P1 Fuels for free if voluntarily wanted. Let us create continuity for our beloved historic cars which will always be icons of development and innovation.

It´s time to provide you with our latest information for Gaisbergrennen 2025. Due to the great success of “Junge Gipfelstürmer,” our category for young classic car enthusiasts under the age of 35, we have decided to continue this program. We do not want to make it strenuous for young drivers/codrivers to enter classic car events by creating high financial boundaries. Furthermore, we proudly announce that we will also have as our E-Fuel supplier on board in 2025! As last year every participating car will receive 20 litres of sustainable fuel on a voluntary basis for free. So let´s get quickly through this winter break and we´re happy to welcome you at Gaisbergrennen 2025 from 19th to 21st June! Just sign up on our website – entries are open now.

We´ll start this week´s with a quite unusual number of cylinders. Ferrari, known as having always advocated 12 cylinders, also used other engine formats like this 4-cylinder powered Ferrari 500 Mondial from 1955. In 1952 the FIA was changing its regulations for Formula 1 to Formula 2 car regulations meaning that naturally aspirated engines had to have a maximum capacity of 2 litres only. Aurelio Lampredi constructed a 2-litre twin-overhead-camshaft, double-ignition, oversquare 4-cylinder engine developing around 170 hp for Ferrari´s type 500 Formula 2 car. Alberto Ascari took the driver´s championship in both 1952 and 1953. In 1953 the successful 2-litre engine was put into the 500 Mondial sports racing car. The name Mondial refers to the former Formula 1 Championship titles the engine has won. Light, quirky as well as well as more fuel efficient than a big 12-cylinder engine made the 500 Mondial a victorious race car. The car competed at Gaisbergrennen 2018.

Let´s celebrate this week´s with a very special one. This unique 1969 McLaren M6-12 GT Road Version was raced at Gaisbergrennen 2012. Back in the days Bruce McLaren took an M12 chassis, put a Coupé coachwork on it and a V8 engine (mid-engined) in it. Basically, he converted a race car into a road car or did he just create the ultimate supercar of the 60s?

2024 saw the apperance of Junge Gipfelstürmer, an own class for drivers and co-drivers both under 35 years. 17 teams competed ranging from rare race cars to mass-produced sports cars. The winners were driving an Opel GT from 1969. But not only did they win their class but also reached 6th place overall!

In need of some monday motivation? Watch this O.S.C.A. 1600 GT Zagato being joyfully driven up the Gaisberg at the 2023 edition of Gaisbergrennen. The effervescent in-line 1600 ccm 4 cylinder engine developing 140 hp at 6700 rpm and four Girling discbrakes all at a total weight of around 785 kilograms are surely providing a racy movement upon every hill.
