Although there are new light fixtures at the Church, the story of those stolen lanterns will forever be part of the The Church on The Hill’s rich history.

There have been reports of a much larger stone closer to the church which may have been the primary stone used for traction, which seems more likely to be used when hauling massive amounts of stone and slate up the side of the cliff. However, to date, we have not been able to find a photo with hard evidence of that. We also have had reports from multiple sources that children would also stand on the cliffside “helping” bring slate up from the river below.

Another major occurrence of 1992 was electricity! Until then there were only kerosene lamps in use. This also ended up being supplied at no cost to the church. An electrician by the name of Joe Griffiths from another parish, negotiated with ETSA to lay the supply, then he installed power points. The church only needed to pay for parts ($1850) and this was covered by a private, anonymous donation.

The original vane must have been an absolute effort to raise. This vane had to be raised to the top of the tower in 1850 with no cranes or lifts.

In 1991 and 1992 it had to be repaired and cleaned. This took place with a crane and was paid for between Heritage SA and the Council.
