Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy and Supertramp producer Ken Scott celebrate the 50th anniversary of 'Crime of the Century' in the Elgar Room of Royal Albert Hall with sound by KEF.
Crime of the Century, released in October 1974, was Supertramp’s international breakthrough. Having just worked with David Bowie, Elton John and George Harrison, Ken Scott’s involvement was crucial to the album’s sublime sound, and he will tell the story about the recording process and working with the band.

This event was part of National Album Day, a wonderful opportunity for the music community come together each year to celebrate and promote the art of the album. 2023's 90s theme looked to shine a light on a truly remarkable decade of music, from the birth of Britpop, the formation of the Spice Girls, to the trip-hop and rave cultures that enriched the decade.
Classic Album Sundays presents Soweto Kinch at Spitalfields Music Festival
Classic Album Sundays was delighted to be joined by composer, alto-saxophonist and MC Soweto Kinch at this years Spitalfields Music Festival.
A two-time MOBO award-winner and Mercury Prize nominee, Soweto is one of the most versatile voices in the both the British jazz and hip hop scenes, performing worldwide. He is also a TV and radio broadcaster, while his albums have been inspired by topics including the international race riots of 1919, an aspiring rapper possessed by each of the seven deadly sins, bird song and cymatic patterns.

Meet a man who was there at the birth of Ziggy Stardust, legendary record producer Ken Scott who joins Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy at The British Library to discuss the making of the album that shot Bowie into inter-galactic fame.
David Bowie was a musical and cultural phenomenon whose significance only seems to increase with every passing year. He rocketed to stardom 50 years ago, in the summer of 1972, with the release of the album 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars'. His appearance on Top of the Pops a month later, dressed as an alien rock star and performing ‘Starman’, was an event that changed many lives.
The sound system for the evening will include the Bowers & Wilkins 800D3 speakers and a Rotel Michi X5 integrated amplifier.
Ken not only produced Bowie’s 'The Rise and Fall…' but also the preceding 'Hunky Dory' and the following 'Aladdin Sane'. Furthermore he was one of the five main engineers for the Beatles, engineered for Elton John, and produced Mahavishnu Orchestra, Billy Cobham, Supertramp and Missing Persons.

An Evening with Brian Jackson Live Stream
Brian Jackson joins Classic Album Sundays founder Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy on Wednesday May 25th at 8pm BST for a deep dive into his 1977 collaboration with Gil Scott-Heron 'Bridges'. Brian will share stories of recording the album and his personal memories of working with Gil Scot-Heron.
We will also be looking at his upcoming album on BBE This Is Brian Jackson. Produced by Phenomenal Handclap Band founder Daniel Collás, ‘This Is Brian Jackson’ is the veteran songwriter and musician’s first true solo studio album in 20 years. “I had mentioned to Daniel that I had begun work on a solo project around the time that Gil and I were recording Bridges in 1976” says Jackson. “I even had a few unfinished tracks. The seed of Daniel’s concept centered around the question: ‘what would a Brian Jackson album sound like if the 21st century Brian were to complete that 1976 album today?’”
