Bit shocked to see my face pop up on this post today but grateful for the support of the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and the Adelaide International Kite Festival 🪁

I love what I get to call work 💜

The Adelaide International Kite Festival (AIKF) has become synonymous with Easter weekends, drawing crowds from far and wide to marvel at the colorful spectacle that dots the sky. At the centre of it all stands Kristen Newlyn, a local legend whose dedication and passion have made the festival a beloved tradition.

Kristen's journey with the AIKF began as a volunteer assisting with marketing in 2013. Little did she know that this would mark the beginning of a remarkable chapter in her life. Fast forward to today, and Kristen stands as the Event Manager, entrusted with every part of the festival's organisation since 2014. From sourcing sponsors to coordinating logistics, her responsibilities span the entire spectrum of event management.

"I haven't looked back since," Kristen remarks with a smile, reflecting on her journey from volunteer to visionary.

Beyond her role with the AIKF, Kristen juggles a full-time position in a not-for-profit organisation and runs her own business, K Marie Events. Her commitment to community engagement and event excellence has not gone unnoticed. In 2020, the AIKF was awarded 'Community Event of the Year' award from the City of PAE, a testament to Kristen's tireless efforts.

The AIKF has become an iconic fixture of Semaphore, deeply ingrained in the fabric of the community. From its humble beginnings, Kristen has overseen its evolution, introducing new elements such as the Marketplace and live entertainment. The festival's growth mirrors Kristen's own journey, marked by dedication, innovation, and a genuine love for what she does.

Kristen's dedication hasn't gone unnoticed by her peers at the Adelaide Kite Flyers Association (AKFA). Allison Carvell, AKFA President, emphasises Kristen's professionalism and unwavering commitment. "We would be lost without her," Allison admits, underscoring Kristen's indispensable role within the club, and as this week's City of PAE Local Legend.

This year we were incredibly excited to welcome a new face to the K Marie Events team for the Adelaide International Kite Festival - the lovely Bec 💜

Bec supported the event last year in her studies at TAFE SA but this year took on a greater workload and role, assisting with the overall coordination of the Festival

We truly couldn’t have done it without Bec’s support this year and we hope that continues into the future! Thanks Bec!

That is a wrap on the 2024 Adelaide International Kite Festival and what a weekend it was 👌🏼

We are taking today to finalise our post-event equipment returns, unpacking the car and putting our feet up a little before we get right back into the swing of things in the full event wrap-up to come

Thanks to all of our wonderful stakeholders who were part of this incredible event this year - our kite flyers, stallholders, sponsors, suppliers, volunteers and importantly, my team - couldn’t pull this massive event together without you all 🪁

Our Story

K Marie Events was launched in September 2012 by Owner and Director Kristen Newlyn and quickly secured it's first client, the Semaphore Street Fair as part of the Semaphore Mainstreet Association's activity calendar.

Kristen's passion for event planning and management further led to a variety of successful private and corporate events. K Marie Events secured the contract to manage the Adelaide International Kite Festival, working alongside the Adelaide Kite Flyers Association. This event is one of the largest of it's kind in Australia and has provided great opportunity for K Marie Events to secure it's position in the industry as managing large scale community events and to grow them across years of involvement.

K Marie Events continues to grow, maintaining not only the management contract for the Adelaide International Kite Festival, but contributing to the success of many other small and large scale events. From private and personal occasions, to high end fundraising balls and corporate affairs, K Marie Events provides both a creative and well managed approach for each client.
