Celebrate nature and community with us! Our Fruit & Veg Swap is a wonderful opportunity to share the surplus from your garden and connect with your neighbours. Our volunteers will be on site from 9:30 am, you are welcome to come early and explore our garden. Swap starts when the bell rings at 10:30 am.

Oriental Martial Arts Academy SA are back at Bower Cottages for Term 4 on Monday 14th October 2024. They will be running classes for Kids, Teens & Adults, Taekwondo and Adults Hapkido. The first Friday class for Adults Hapkido is on 18th October 2024 at 10
am.

Oriental Martial Arts Academy SA will be running the following classes at Bower Cottages during the school term.

Monday:
Kids Taekwondo 5.45pm-6.15pm
Teens & Adults Taekwondo 5.45pm-6.30pm
Adults Hapkido 6.30pm

We had an absolutely magical time at Bower Cottages today with our latest session of Little Kids and Books! 🎶✨ The air was filled with joyful music, dancing, singing, and enchanting stories that brought smiles to all our little ones. The session was co-hosted with UnitingCare Wesley Bowden - UCWB.

A huge THANK YOU to Lauren for leading another fantastic session! Your energy and enthusiasm truly make a difference. We can’t wait to welcome you back during the next school holidays for more fun and learning! 📚❤️

🌿 This year, Bower Cottages was thrilled to host not one, but two amazing events as part of our Nature Festival!

Last Saturday, we kicked things off with a vibrant Fruit & Veg Swap that brought together over 35 participants, many of whom were new faces. It was a fantastic day filled with engaging conversations and new connections. From plants and fruits to magazines and even a heart-shaped potato, there was so much to swap! 🌱✨

Today, we held a Composting & Worm Farming Workshop where attendees learned the ins and outs of creating their own worm farms and making organic compost at home. Our participants walked away with valuable gardening tips, along with some fabulous giveaways including bottles of worm juice, live worms, coffee grounds, a variety of plants, kitchen caddies, and compostable bags!

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated garden volunteers who put in countless hours and hard work to ensure these events were a resounding success. Your hard work truly shines!

The feedback from our attendees has been overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the atmosphere as “welcoming” and “wonderful.” Check out these photos from the event! We’re already buzzing with excitement for the next one! 🌈💚

Don't sleep on this exciting news! You can now recycle old mattresses for free in the City of PAE, and we'll even pick them up from your place! This is another way we are working to improve services for you, while also fighting against illegal dumping.

The mattresses will be recycled by Bounce Back Mattress Recycling in Ottoway. Once they arrive at their facility, they are manually separated to achieve the highest available level of recovery, diverting a minimum of 75% of mattress components from landfill to recycling streams. This reduces the environmental impact caused by mattresses in landfill.

Each residential property can book up to 2 mattress collections per year, with a maximum of 3 mattresses per collection. This service is in addition to the regular 3 hard waste collections per year. This is for residential properties only and is not available for community groups, sports clubs, non-profits, businesses, or commercial premises.

Mattresses will be collected the week after your booking, please ensure that the booked mattresses are placed on the kerbside by 8am Monday morning the week of your collection

You can book a free mattress collection via the Hard Waste page on our website, by calling 8405 6600, or in person at the Civic Centre or any of our Libraries.

With the current cost of living crisis, the demand for food relief in our community continues to rise.

Food assistance is available through Foodbank and Puddle Jumpers who already operate in the City of Charles Sturt.

And now
OzHarvest have just opened a free supermarket in Hindmarsh.
The OzHarvest Manton Street supermarket will be open from 10am-2pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 3pm-7pm on Wednesdays.

She shares that the OzHarvest Supermarket’s opening include after hours on Wednesdays to look after the newest cohort of food relief seekers, those in employment that are struggling to pay rent and bills.

Bower Cottages have partnered with KWY and Uniting SA to deliver this upcoming Program.

The Little Steps Program supports Aboriginal Women who have past, or current experiences of family and domestic violence, and or other barriers to strong parenting.
The program runs over 10 weeks.

Recently, local community members have been creating some beautiful stobie pole art boards.
We aim to brighten up the stobie poles out the front of Bower Cottages.

Facilitated by community artist Mignon Clift, the art reflects the local region, including the lakefront, the beach and the nature around the lake.

Keep an eye out for these popping up along Bower Rd, when completed. 👀
