Celebrating History: The Upgraded Whitford Memorial Fountain

The original water fountain, constructed in 1986 by the father of Daryl Sellar (Glenelg Golf Club’s Superintendent from 2000 to 2018), was originally located at the rear of the 5th tee, commemorating Owen Whitford who passed away in 1982.

In July 2024, a newly designed and upgraded water fountain was installed along the path near the red tees, offering improved accessibility for all Members and guests. A commemorative plaque on the fountain honours Owen Whitford (1982) and Iris Whitford (2011), with Iris’s name more recently added to this meaningful tribute.

With the recent rain, the new 15th, 16th, and 17th holes are coming together beautifully. These new holes will officially open on Monday, 2 December, ready for play.

Our course renovations are well underway, with the greenkeepers putting in an incredible effort over the past few days. Starting as early as 5:30am and finishing past 5pm, they have been working tirelessly from Monday through to Wednesday.

We’re now into the final two days, with the cleanup process beginning and the smaller projects nearing completion.

The Vines Claim Historic Division 1 Senior Pennant Win Over Glenelg

The Vines Golf Club of Reynella claimed their first Division 1 Senior Pennant with a 5½ to 1½ victory over Glenelg at Blackwood on Monday. While the final score suggests a dominant win, the contest was much closer, with Glenelg holding strong positions in three matches before they were declared halves under competition rules.

Despite a valiant effort, The Vines delivered consistent golf, making crucial birdies and holding firm under pressure. Congratulations to The Vines on their well-deserved victory, and thank you to the Glenelg players, caddies, and supporters for a strong season.

Glenelg is determined to come back stronger next year.

The NSW Open, held from 14th to 17th November, saw three Glenelg Golf Club Members—Jack Buchanan, Jack Tanner and Club teaching professional Adam Bland—compete at the prestigious event.

Jack Tanner put in a solid effort, competing through to the second round before missing the cut to round three.

Adam Bland and Jack Buchanan progressed to the final round on Sunday, delivering impressive performances.

Jack Buchanan finished tied for 5th place with a remarkable score of 9-under par (275), just six strokes behind the winner. His third round stood out, scoring a brilliant 66, matching the efforts of Cameron Smith for the round.

Adam Bland tied for 31st place at 3-under par (281), his final-round score of 68, his best of the tournament.

2024 SA Mid Amateur - Final Round

The final round of the 2024 SA Mid Amateur was held at McCracken Golf Club on 16th and 17th November.

Women's Results
Congratulations to Sarah Crocker on an impressive victory, carding a final round of 75 (+3) to secure the 2024 Women's SA Mid Amateur Championship with a two-round total of +14. Christine Trimmer also performed strongly, finishing in 3rd place with a total of +25.

Men's Results
David Brand achieved a solid result, finishing in 17th place with a total of +17, while Dale Baker placed 32nd with +26.
