I remember always having an eco conscious from a young age. A memory popped up for me recently from when I started buying my own makeup at 19. I was concerned about what to do with my compact container when finished. I even went up to a few makeup counters and asking if I could recycle or could get a refill. The look I got was priceless, like why would I even care. This would have been in the early 1990s so it was great when the other day I was walking through my local shopping centre and seeing this box for recycling makeup containers. It was great to see and it made me think of myself at 19 wishing I had this box available to me back then. We have come a long way with waste and it’s good to see all the efforts of both big and small businesses alike to do their part.

Another year has gone. Thanks to all our amazing Eco Party Box supporters. A new year is a good excuse to start a new habit in creating less waste. At least just one new habit. Which one will you focus on this year? I have started a lot of new habits this way. Just focusing on one. For me, my focus for 2022 will be pens. I see how I go and what the best eco options are and list my journey. Be fun.

Bamboo pulp plates make a beautiful single use alternative to disposables. They are made from renewable resources, fully compostable in 30-90 days, no plastic coating, non-toxic and are strong and durable. I see a lot of single use disposables on the market but compostable tableware are the better choice. Look for compostable wording in the description of any tableware product claiming to be “eco friendly”

I believe bunting makes one of the best decorations. They can be hang up anywhere to add a touch of festive fun. They are reusable, easy to look after, store and take up little space in storage. They can be shared amongst family and friends and used for many different celebrations indoors or outdoors.

Why Willunga's Green Room on High Street Stopped Supplying Straws to Their Customers

It is International Straw Free Day on Saturday. Willunga Cafe The Green Room on High Street in SA, last year took the step of no longer supplying straws to their customers. A move which was met with astonishment by some at first as well as applause by their many eco friendly fans. In spite of the ban on straws milkshakes and juices are still drunk and everyone so far seems to get on just fine without them. The Green Room has built a reputation on delicious wholesome, organic, vegetarian food and adopting eco practices into their cafe. #strawfreeday #ecopartybox #thegreenroomonhighstreet

Christina Repetti - WBTA Chairman - on chossing bunting over balloons at this year's Tour Down Under in Willunga

Balloons were barely used at this year's Tour Down Under in Willunga. Instead handmade, reusable bunting decorated the streets. It was a vast cry from previous year's at Willunga when massive bunches of balloons coloured the town's landscape. Balloons are being exposed as a bad choice for parties and events due to their dangers to wildlife and ability to biodegrade. We stopped selling them back in 2014.
