Red Phoenix Theatre is dedicated to producing Adelaide premieres. For you, this means attending a Red Phoenix Theatre production will bring fresh and inspiring theatrical experiences.

If a play hasn’t previously been staged in Adelaide then it’s our honour and mission to bring it to you. You can still expect to see won

derful plays by great names such as Aristophanes, Euripides, Shakespeare, Ibsen, Strindberg, Havel, Albee, Mamet and a long list of others. There are many of their works which have never received a public performance in Adelaide. There is a growing list of modern adaptations and translations of older works which are so significantly different that Adelaide audiences deserve a chance to see them. Let’s also savour some of the dazzling contemporary plays simply waiting for us to reach out and devour them. Please join us for this exciting adventure.

Winners have been announced for the 2024 BroadwayWorld Australia - Adelaide Awards! The 2024 Regional Awards honor regional productions, touring shows, and more which had their first performance between October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2024.

Red Phoenix Theatre Concludes Residency with Holden Street Theatres.

After a highly successful nine-year residency with Holden Street Theatres, Red Phoenix Theatre is standing down as a resident theatre company to embark on a new journey. During this remarkable partnership, the two organisations collaborated to deliver 21 highly acclaimed productions, earning the praise of audiences and critics alike. These productions garnered numerous nominations and awards from the Adelaide Critics Circle, the Theatre Association of South Australia, and the Adelaide Theatre Guide, cementing Red Phoenix Theatre's reputation as a leading force in South Australian community theatre.

Libby Drake, Artistic Director of Red Phoenix Theatre, expressed gratitude for the collaboration, saying, “We are grateful to Martha Lott and Holden Street Theatres for the opportunity to work with them to grow Red Phoenix Theatre from its inception through its formative years.”

Red Phoenix Theatre will take a hiatus in 2025, using the time to reflect on their many achievements and develop a refreshed structure and vision for the future. Plans are already underway for an exciting relaunch at a new venue in 2026, promising a bold new chapter for the company while honouring its legacy of delivering exceptional theatre experiences.

This is not a farewell, but a step forward, as Red Phoenix Theatre looks to continue its tradition of creativity, innovation, and excellence. Stay tuned for the next stage in their theatrical journey.

Congratulations to Libby Drake and Sharon Malujlo and the whole "The Trip to Bountiful" production team for being shortlisted for the 2024 Adelaide Critics Circle Awards. This was a tremendous production which we are very proud of. To receive recognition from the Adelaide Critics Circle is always a great honour. Congratulations to all the other nominees as well. 2024 is a very impressive list indeed!

The Adelaide Critics Circle is delighted to announce the shortlist for its 27th Annual Awards. Congratulations to all the nominees.

The Awards Ceremony will be held at Goodwood Theatre and Studios on Monday 9 December from 6 pm. All are welcome.

🍻 Fun Fact: "Hangmen" Edition! 🍻

So, you know that hysterical play "Hangmen" by Martin McDonagh? Set in the front bar of a pub, it’s not just the audience cracking up – the cast is also having a "barrel" of laughs!

During each performance, they knock back a whopping 13.5 litres of beer. 🍺 Over the season and dress rehearsals, that adds up to more than 160 litres! That's enough to make any pub regular proud! 😂

Not to worry, though! They may be pounding the pints, but these drinks are all alcohol-free – just enough to keep the cast buzzed on character, not the actual brew.
