Zooper Doopers and Fruit Boxes all round... that's a wrap on Fitzroy's Cricket Blast Program for 2024!
Thanks to the all the future cricketing superstars and their parents for participating every Saturday morning over the past eight weeks.
Special thanks to Ruth Jones for establishing and leading the program and Nick Raymond, Sarah Foot and Lyndon Foot for helping out. It has been great fun!
We're also excited to announce that Ruth has been selected for Cricket Australia's Project Inspire, aimed at training and empowering women in leadership roles at cricket clubs. The project will consist of a series of seminars, culminating in a trip to the Women's Ashes Test at the MCG early next year.
Good news! Last weekend, after a couple of forfeits against them, our B-Grade finally got to have a game, taking on Athelstone at home. Bowling first, David Blowes (2/8) and Kiran Mundlapudi (2/9) were our best bowlers out of the eight players that had a bowl where we saw a very even contribution through everyone. In reply, Obaidullah Ahmed (61) and Tamoor Sarfraz (51*) saw us take a strong eight wicket win. For everyone at the ground, the best part of the day was seeing one of our Under 14's, Johnny Palmer, debut alongside his dad Dave, both performing beautifully!
Meanwhile, the A-Grade travelled up Grand Junction Road to take on Para Vista. Batting first, we saw captain Hunter Dwyer pull together a very well made 53 and Brendan Lines contributing 30 on our way to 166. With the ball, it was Dan Symonds (2/5) and Luke Tylkowski (2/25) that did their fair share of the damage to keep Para Vista to 101, resulting in a 65 run Fitzroy win.
The ladies match was unfortunately abandoned due to the pouring rain on Monday night, and our Under 14s had the bye so both will be raring to go next week.
Tomorrow, our A-Grade men will take on old C&CCA and ICCA rivals North-Eastern Knights at home, whilst the B-Grade are heading to Valley View for a top-of-the-table clash with Adelaide Warriors. Our women face Salisbury West in a T20 on Monday evening at Salisbury West. All spectators welcome!
Go Roys

π Cricket Update π
The A-Grade were the only men's team in action over the weekend (again) after our B-Grade side was told their opponent had to forfeit. Batting first against Parafield Gardens, Mofflin Reserve was lit up by first-gamer Justin Keast, smoking the ball to all parts on his way to a monster 127. Captain Hunter Dwyer also put in a strong performance, contributing 42, before Fitzroy were dismissed for 247. With the ball, we saw Dan Symonds (3/26) and young Lachlan Hall (2/16) pull Parafield Gardens apart for 183, Fitzroy winning by 64 runs to continue a really good run of form for the A-Grade boys.
Our ladies also didn't see a match this week due to an opposition forfeit, but are training hard and planning an internal trial for this coming Monday.
Finally, the Under 14s got to bat in week one of their match, notching 9/187, thanks to solid contributions from Noah Raven, Swanit More and Evan Furmage. Sadly, the momentum was cruelled on Day Two, with overnight rain on the turf pitch forcing an abandonment.

πCRICKET UPDATE π
The A-Grade were the only men's team in action over the weekend, with the B-Grade told their opponent had forfeit. Home to Virginia, we had a bat first with Robert Henderson (68) and Andrew Wohlfart (67) combining for a big opening partnership and getting our innings started very well. After they both departed, we weren't short of batsmen with Scott Graham (29*) and Prashant Singh (28*) getting us to 4/224 at the conclusion of our 40 overs. In reply, Aaron Burgess (3/15) and Luke Tylkowski (3/26) saw off the Virginia batting lineup within 18 overs; Fitzroy winning by 144 runs.
The ladies played Day Two of their Round Two match on Monday evening, and in a somewhat rare twist of events, the match eventuated in a draw - both teams finishing on 217. Sarah Foot (62) and Narelle Henderson (53 retired) topped the scoring.
Over at the Under 14s, they have completed Day 1 of their two-day match, where we won the toss and had a bat. Evan Furmage (39*) and Noah Raven (32) have topped the scoring on the way to a very healthy score of 9/187 against Grange Red.
