๐ŸCRICKET UPDATE ๐Ÿ

All senior men's matches were abandoned due to heat last weekend. This weekend, we have the final round of the regular season with the A-Grade away to Dublin and the B-Grade home to Athelstone. Both the A and B-Grade are sitting second on the ladder of their respective divisions with the B-Grade just half a point behind the top spot.

Over at the ladies, who are mid-way through a two day semi final match against Salisbury West, where we won the toss and elected to have a bat first. Emily Bryant (37) and Narelle Henderson (35) top scored for Fitzroy as they made their way to a defendable total of 141. We will see the all important conclusion to this match this coming Monday.

๐Ÿ Cricket Update ๐Ÿ

That's another season done for our Under 14 cricketers, who played their last game of the summer this morning at Sam Johnson Sportsground. The game was a thriller too, our boys getting the runs they needed to finish with a win, with only one wicket in hand and one ball to spare.

Thanks so much to all of our players, their parents and of course coach Benjamin Hall for the dedication shown by our Under 14 group over the past few seasons, culminating in today's big win and a majority of these players making their senior debuts at different stages this summer. Onwards and upwards from here!

๐ŸCRICKET UPDATE ๐Ÿ

Please note, due to circumstances beyond our control, we weren't able to get last week's results up online, so this week we've got a 2-for-1 deal happening!

In Round 15 of the Men's comp, our B-Grade hosted Eyre Royals in what can only be described as a dominant display. Bowling first, the Roys got stuck into their work, dismissing Eyre for just 63 runs with Sai Kiran (2/9) and Sid Puri (2/10) the pick of the bowlers, however everyone who bowled, did so extremely well, with everyone who bowled taking a wicket. In chasing their total, we saw Tamoor Sarfraz (27*) and Sasie Maddipati (24) get us over the line in a comprehensive 7 wicket win.

In Round 16, the B-Grade were away to Parafield Gardens. Batting first, the B-Grade found it tough at times, with batsmen making starts but mostly unable to capitalise. Tamoor Sarfraz (41) managed to steady the ship, with help from Matt Olesnicky (25) and the lower order chipping in vital runs, compiling 149. In order to win this match, the bowling had to be tight - and tight it was. Lucas Baggio took the match by the scruff of the neck, sending down rockets on the way to 5/24 in a match turning performance. Obaidullah Ahmed (2/15) supported well and the fielding effort came together to dismiss Parafield Gardens for 77, resulting in a 72 run win.

In Round 15, the A-Grade travelled to Eyre Royals where we saw an extremely close game unfold. Batting first, Robert Henderson compiled a composed 53, supported by Nick Raymond (28) at the top of the order. With 151 set, we knew we were going to have to fight this one out - unfortunately Eyre proved just too good, eventually taking the match by 2 wickets, despite the efforts of Riley Hutt (3/28) and Aaron Burgess (2/14).

In Round 16, the A-Grade were looking to bounce back against Para Vista at home. Batting first, we saw Robert Henderson (58) notch his second 50 in a row and Justin Keast (36) to get us off to a good start. Following these two, we had a bit of a collapse, losing quick wickets before Andrew Wohlfart (60*) counter attacked to get us a reasonable 206 on the board. With the game in the balance, Riley Hutt (3/49) and Jake Burgess (1/18 and some great death bowling) dragged us over the line to a 28 run victory. There were times where the game threatened to get away from us but with hard work and resolve, we managed to take the game away in the last 5 overs.

Our ladies played a two-day match over the last couple of Mondays versus Salisbury West. We faced a difficult Day One in the field with Salisbury West amassing 302 runs. In reply, Fitzroy put up a valiant effort with Emily Bryant (51 retired not out) and Ruth Jones (39*) leading the charge but ultimately could only reach 171.

Some good news has come from our U14s side with Fitzroy winning their two-day match against Woodville Rechabites in Round 11 by 62 runs. Evan Furmage had exceptional bowling figures of 3/3 with Lachlan Hall not allowing Woodville to take any runs from him, finishing with figures of 1/0 with 4 maidens!

In Round 12, the U14s faced off against Phantoms. Fitzroy set a total of 131 with Noah Raven (25*) and Lakshya Choudhary (21) both making good starts. Unfortunately, Phantoms crept over the line to win by one wicket, with Evan Furmage the pick of the bowlers, taking 2/2.

๐Ÿ CRICKET UPDATE ๐Ÿ

Over the weekend, our B-Grade were home to ATCO. Batting first, the efforts of Tamoor Sarfraz (67) and Steven Baggio (37) gave us a very formidable total of 213 to defend. Rayyan Ahmed (3/16) got us started and Sai Kiran (2/16) helped us dismiss ATCO for 113, giving us a 100 run victory.

The A-Grade were away to Parafield Gardens where we had a bat first. Skipper Hunter Dwyer (44) and Lachlan Dietrich (31) got us to 190 against a very solid opposition. Dwyer then backed his batting performance up with the ball (3/16), supported by Aaron Burgess (2/21 and a great catch), getting us over the line by 34 runs.

Our ladies unfortunately had day 2 of their match abandoned due to heat.

Our U14s played day 1 of their 2 day match against Woodville Rechabite, where we found ourselves all out for 116, with Noah Raven (38*) top scoring. Woodville are currently 1/2 with Lachlan Hall (1/0) taking the important early wicket.

๐Ÿ“ข Fitzroy Needs You! ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ

We know life is busier than everโ€”juggling work, family, and everything in between. But our club only thrives because of amazing volunteers who give a little bit of their time to make sure our players, families, and supporters have a place to come together.

As we head into the 2025 season there are a number of sporting and backroom tasks to help support the teams that take the field. There are also several front-of-house roles in the canteen or kitchen that keep the club running. Even a small commitment makes a huge difference.

โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™ Why volunteer?
โœ… Meet new people & be part of a great community
โœ… Help keep Fitzroy a welcoming, family-friendly place
โœ… Flexible roles โ€” give as much or as little time as you can!

If you can help in any way, please reach out to Dom ( 0447 008 831 ) or Talal ( 0404 064 097 ) or email [email protected] to register your interest.

Letโ€™s keep Fitzroy strongโ€”together!

๐Ÿ CRICKET UPDATE ๐Ÿ

Our B-Grade were not in action for round 13 after an opposition forfeit.

Our A-Grade, however, made the trip to Virginia. On a small Riverbanks College ground, Fitzroy made 172 all out off the back of Prashant Singh (37*), Rob Henderson and Dan Symonds (both 26). We probably would have liked to see a few more on the board but after being 5/73, it's a score we would gladly take. In order to defend that total, we would have to bowl and field as well as we have all season - which is exactly what we did. Dan Symonds (3/12), Riley Hutt (3/24) and Aaron Burgess (3/29) all contributed extremely well with the ball. Our bowling effort combined with our fielding saw Virginia off for 114, leading to a 58 run victory.

The ladies have completed day 1 of their 2 day match against Eyre Royals away. Day 1 saw Fitzroy batting, achieving 6/191 off of 32 overs with Narelle Henderson (53 retired not out) and Emily Bryant (51) leading the way. Stay tuned next week for what should be a fantastic conclusion to this match.

Our Juniors had the week off and will face off against Woodville Rechabite next week in a 2 day match.

๐ŸCRICKET UPDATE ๐Ÿ

Before we begin with a round up of last weekend's matches, the club would like to thank everyone who paid their respects to Dwayne "Uncle" Barker during the past couple of weeks. This meant a great deal to everyone affected.

Last Saturday, our B-Grade men were away to Enfield where we saw a fantastic effort with the bat, three players notching up fifty plus. David Blowes led from the front with 65, followed by Sid Puri (52) and Tamoor Sarfraz (51), which put us in a commanding position of 5/262 at the end of 40 overs. Our bowlers followed suit with a fantastic effort, bowling Enfield out for 119, with Obaidullah Ahmed (2/5) and Rayyan Ahmed (2/17) leading the charge. Fitzroy ran out winners by 143 runs, despite some fantastic performances from a couple of funny looking Enfield players! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Our A-Grade continued their premiership assault at home against Craigmore. Bowling first, we saw Prashant Singh put up a clinical performance, taking 5/31 followed by Riley Hutt bowling some venom on the way to 3/33. Set a total of 172 for victory, Lachlan Dietrich amassed 93 runs, backed up by Nick Raymond (24). Fitzroy winning by five wickets.

Our ladies faced off against Eastern Park away on Monday. Batting first, only Narelle Henderson managed to get in to double figures before falling on 23. In response, Eastern Park managed to chase our total of 52 in nine overs, resulting in an eight wicket loss. Emily Bryant was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2/4.

On Sunday, our juniors hosted Grange Blue. With the ball, we saw Evan Furmage, Lakshya Choudhary, Johnny Palmer and Noah Raven each take a wicket, with Grange making 227 runs. With the bat, Noah Raven made an impressive 53 off just 38 balls, backed up by Evan Furmage (23), however we couldn't get the job done with Grange taking the honours this time.

๐ŸCRICKET UPDATE ๐Ÿ

With the break behind us, our B-Grade returned to play host to North Pines. In the field first, Sai Kiran was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4/19. He was supported by Tamoor Sarfraz, taking 2/15. Fitzroy managed to keep North Pines contained to 124. In reply, Fitzroy got home with four wickets to spare off the back of Tamoor Sarfraz (33) and Rayyan Ahmed (22).

Our A-Grade travelled to take on top of the table Salisbury West. The A-Grade were also in the field first and quickly found themselves in an arm-wrestle of a contest. Wickets to Riley Hutt (3/47) and the returning Prashant Singh (2/20) saw Salisbury West all out for 228. In reply, our batsmen were in a hurry with nearly everyone striking at over 100, however it was Justin Keast (67) and Prashant Singh (50*) that got us a five wicket win within 28 overs. A special shout out also goes to Lachlan Dietrich on club debut, taking 2/29 and also scoring 40*.

On Monday, our ladies were home to Smithfield. With ball in hand, we saw Holly McCoy take 2/18 and Emily Bryant take 1/12 before Sarah Foot (28 retired not out) and Narelle Henderson (18) guided us home to a comprehensive 8 wicket victory.

And last but not least, our Under 14s were away to North Haven. Fielding first, Evan Furmage (1/12) and Lakshya Choudhary (1/14) and the rest of the team worked hard to keep the opposition to 201, however we couldn't get it done with the bat this time. We were eventually dismissed for 94, losing by 107.

For the weekend ahead, the club is planning to honour the memory of Dwayne Barker with a minute's silence before play on Saturday and a free barbecue at the club on Saturday evening. A-Grade players are invited to remain at the club after play and the B-Grade boys are encouraged to travel back from Enfield to join us. All men's, women's and junior players and families and friends of the club are also welcome to head down and raise a glass of beer or soft drink to the man who was an Uncle to all of us.

๐Ÿ–ค Vale Dwayne Barker ๐Ÿ–ค

Fitzroy Community Club would like to acknowledge the sad passing of Dwayne Barker earlier this morning after a short battle with cancer. He was 60 years old.

Dwayne was best known around the club as the Goal Umpire for our Senior Menโ€™s Football program, a role that he performed with distinction every Saturday for a number of years. Dwayne has also been a regular contributor to our Menโ€™s Cricket Club, making up a core of members around which the club has rebuilt in the past couple of seasons. He was loyal, friendly and always happy to help.

Our thoughts today remain with his family members who are all regular contributors to the life of our club: Dwayneโ€™s wife Kerry, son Chase, grandson Riley, step-grandsons Joss and Heath, and his nephew Aaron.

The last few months have inflicted some hardships on Dwayneโ€™s family. For those who feel compelled to assist, donations can be made at the following link: https://gofund.me/b9dbfe64

Chase and Aaron will keep Dwayneโ€™s friends at the club informed of funeral arrangements as soon as they are confirmed.

โ€œA cricketerโ€™s life is a life of splendid freedom, healthy effort, endless variety and delightful good fellowship.โ€ - W.G. Grace.
