The English Ale

The English Ale The English Ale (Ale meaning singing, dancing, drinking & making merry) is an annual seasonal event held every year in May in Mylor, South Australia.

The first of our winter rains has come; in the Adelaide Hills the creeks and streams trickle and begin to run, the European trees have lost their leaves and the beautiful eucalypts shimmer in the early winter sunshine. The seasons are changing. We have farewelled another dry, hot summer – the land that was so parched and dry is now is coming back to life as we move into the green. The leafy faces

of green men peek out from behind the trees as King George and his mummers players ring their bell to summon all to gather. A bonfire is built with a wicker man waiting to fire the night, masked guisers in rag coats beat their drums to lead you along the path while we await the Morris dancers with their bells, sticks and hankies to accompany the giants Petal, Rufus and Tanis, to the lighting of our ritual fire. The English Ale is coming and the Spirit of Albion lives on! The English Ale is organised by like minded people who are passionate and proud of these living customs and want to see them continue and survive in this far away land of Australia, while still honouring this beautiful land we live on. The imagination of the organisers has been fired by the amazing festivals held throughout Britain today but special thanks must be given to Keith Leech and the Hastings Jack in the Green.

Magnificent photos and videos everyone - thanks so much for sharing! We don’t have all our official photos through yet but did anyone take any photos of Hedgehog (medieval minstrels), Shambolics, Lowland Rogues, Ruby Moon, the shanty session, Spiral Dance, Storytelling Australia, Fayre Guisers Mummers, Adelaide Empire Band or the bar staff? If so we’d love it if you could post them in the photo thread below! Thanks! :)

Hopefully the last of the lost bits! One of our committee found some glasses on the road during our clean up yesterday - they are now at Verté Kitchen opposite the oval so give them a buzz if you think they might be yours! 🙂

***UPDATE*** now reunited with owner.

More lost bits - has anyone found these?

A pair of silver earrings (owner bought some at the market, put the pair she had been wearing in a bag, fell out somewhere - heart and horseshoe design

Please contact us at [email protected] if you can help? Thanks!

Hello lovely people! Did anyone find an iPhone in a red case last night? We have had an enquiry - could you respond here or email us at [email protected] if you have found it…..it’d be the lovely icing on the cake to get it back to its owner….

***UPDATE*** - the problem is fixed and Facebook are slowly rolling out content again. Verrrry slowly. Our event pages are still not up including the Village Market event page so updates about the Village Market will be posted here on the main English Ale page. Thanks for your patience!

Hello everyone! Well it seems that Facebook is having fun with pages containing Humanitix links and therefore has blocked our 2024 event page and also the Village Market event page. Humanitix has let us know they are on it and trying to get it resolved. It doesn’t affect anything to do with tickets and the waitlist is still operational. But we do want to get information out to you on the events pages! Great timing haha! We will post any updates here for now.

Hi everyone! Under 12 children’s tickets have now all been allocated. Just a reminder that all children need to be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult to be admitted to The English Ale. Adult ticket holders will be issued with a wristband at the gate, those holding children’s tickets will have their tickets scanned but won’t receive a wristband. A wristband is required to enter the Marquee and receive bar service. See you all soon!
