Bravehearts is an event that happens during Child Protection Week. AlburyCity Council has been involved for past 8 years and this year’s event will be held on Friday 6th September at the front of the Albury Library Museum from 10am – 2.00pm. The aim of the event to provide information and resources to the community about local service providers that support children, young people and their families who have been affected by sexual abuse and violence against children. At the event there will be sausage sizzle, Braveheart’s merchandise, Live music and other activities. All funds raised will go to Bravehearts.org

🌟 Parallel Wilds: A Creative Success in Albury! 🌟

We at AlburyCity are thrilled to celebrate the success of the Parallel Wilds project, a truly inspiring initiative that has taken root in the stunning David Mitchell Wetlands at Charles Sturt University, Thurgoona. This year, 16 talented young people from our community came together to imagine and create a speculative universe focused on the future of our wilderness.

First launched in 2021 through a Creative Victoria funded Creative Learning Partnership at Outdoor School Bogong, Parallel Wilds is an innovative 3D creative writing platform based right here in Albury. It empowers regional youth aged 10-16 to explore their creativity by crafting virtual stories centered on native species. This initiative has grown significantly, and in April, Young Somerset’s Parallel Wilds project, "The Stream of Freedom," proudly won the Group Category UK Creative Freedom Award!

Through these programs, young people have been engaged in mind mapping, creative writing, and using cutting-edge technology such as 360 cameras, sound recording equipment, and virtual reality headsets—building not only their creative skills but also a strong sense of social responsibility.

AlburyCity partnered with Parallel Wilds and Charles Sturt University to offer participants the chance to walk together through the wetlands, research native species like Sloane’s Froglet, and channel their creativity in the CSU classrooms.

We are incredibly proud of the achievements of these young creatives and are excited to continue fostering such imagination and innovation within our community! 🌿🎨

Ripples from the Future – Parallel Wilds

Ripples from the Future is the fourth project in the WILDLAND series and was created by youth from Albury City in July 2024, funded by Albury City Council with support from NSW Government and Charles Sturt University.

We hope you had a lot of fun during our silent disco at Winterglow. We are so glad that we were able to purchase this equipment for future events.

Unfortunately, one of our headsets went walkabout on the night. These aren't regular headphones and don't work without the other pieces of technology, rendering the headphones that were stolen completely useless. We understand that sometimes accidents happen and it could've just been a small child who didn't understand they had to give them back. If this was you feel free to drop them back to the Retro Lane Cafe front counter, no questions asked.

We have young people already signed up keen to learn from you, meet you, and share their stories with you.

Are you wondering what you will take away from the program?
- new experiences
- new connections
- a good story
- re energised
- new skills.

You do not need to run, write, or know anything about young people.

You do need to be open to new experiences, happy to spend time with others, and be up for a team challenge.

The hardest part for any age group will be turning up. After that, it'll just be fun and will fill your bucket.

We had the pleasure of hosting Koomsy from Border Christian College for his work experience this week! 🌟 He jumped right into the action, helping us with coordinating youth services info, ensuring it was up-to-date for young people in the area, and assisting with our Parallel Wilds launch. Koomsy also enjoyed the free food at the event! 🍕😄

We know it’s school holidays and people get excited but please treat our space well when you come in. We have had to regularly replace pool cues and now have 2 fresh holes in the pool table.
Money spent to fix this takes away from other opportunities for young people.

Parallel Wilds: an immersive and empowering 3D platform for youth, featuring creative writing, digital photography and videography, cosplay and modelling, 3D and drone imagery, and sound composition. This innovative convergence of artforms allows youth to express self-identity in the natural world, to create a speculative universe on the future of wilderness, set in the year 2050.

This workshop is strictly a drug, alcohol and v**e free event.

As a reminder - the Retro Youth Program is for young people aged 12-24.
