The cost for the mini sessions will be $100 which is a 58% discount from normal family session pricing. The sessions will go for 30mins at the ever-popular Colmslie Beach Reserve. During this time we will try a few locations in the immediate vicinity and aim for a final image count between 10 and 20. The high resolutions images will be retouched, colour corrected and supplied (without watermark) via digital download.

Sometimes you can blindly surf a site or brochure and not realise that there are photographers behind everything you see. I love these kinds of shoots because you always end up learning something, working behind the scenes with the client to make them happen.

Personal share.
I suffer from imposter syndrome, most creatives do. There is so much to learn and so many things to keep across. It's hard to feel like you are "good at what you do".

Early on when I began shooting weddings, I was lucky enough to learn from an amazing Northern Rivers photographer by the name of Vicki James. I remember one day I was her second shooter for a wedding in Ballina. We had just finished shooting groom prep and we were riding on the way to bridal prep and I asked her, "How do you know when you produce good work?" She simply said, "If your client is happy, and they are hanging your photos in their home, then nothing else matters".

This is so true and something I remind myself of from time to time. Vicki shot our wedding (pictured) and yes, we have her photos hanging in our home too 😀 Shout out to you Vicki Anne !

Sometimes it's easy to forget that you are your own worst critic.

I wish I could edit video this quick.
Recently I had the opportunity to produce a content package for the team at The Practice West Village - Modern Dentistry & Facial Aesthetics at West End. Over a four hour period, we shot 15 videos and a suite of commercial high res images for use on their website and socials. Video below is a five minute timelapse creating a video for the team. 👍

When you need height...
The family trampoline! Perfect for the group shot at a grade 6 graduation session. It was such a great idea, attended by some 25 families before the event.

While they were dressed up, the kids had the chance to get individual portraits and as well as photos with their friends before they say goodbye and head to high school in 2023. Thank you to Amber for the behind the scenes pic 😊 📸

Rain is always a concern on a wedding day but like anything sometimes we roll with it. I will be forever grateful to Rachael and Ben for putting their trust in us to leave the "dry" of the reception venue to try this shot at BRISBANE POWERHOUSE....in the rain. This one is still one of my favorite shots.

I always tried to avoid in-home shoots for newborns.
Years ago I had the purpose-built newborn studio with all of the backdrops, fake floors and props but after dealing with an abusive client one Sunday morning (in my own home), I fell out of love with newborn sessions. I sold all of the gear and moved on.

That is until a good friend and an all-around beautiful person, Caitlin ,and Chris had their baby boy Hamish. Caitlin was keen for a casual in-home shoot and didn't give me an option to say no. This was the first photo I took that day and it sent me back.

When our youngest was born, my wife and I would take turns getting up to her at all hours. When it was my turn, I would do 100+ laps around the kitchen bench until she fell asleep and repeat this sometimes a few times a night. In this photo I realised the "real-ness" of the little moments. While the studio shots are great and all, I think I like these better :-)

Have you ever seen a PixelStick? Everything you see in the image happened at the time.
The PixelStick is a long metal "stick" that has 200 LED lights built into it. You simply turn it on, walk through your shot and wave it around for your desired effect.

You can create some incredible images like the second one where I asked Chelsea and Nick to supply images from when they first met all the way up to their wedding day. I created a custom collage in photoshop, loaded it into the PixelStick and printed it into their image on their wedding day :-)

Chelsea and Nick did some really awesome and creative things for their wedding including a paint ball trash the dress! Video to come soon.

I spent last weekend working with the amazingly talented team at The Practice West Village - Modern Dentistry & Facial Aesthetics at West End. During a 5-hour session, we created a huge amount of photo and video content for web and socials. I have been a busy editing 🐝 this week.

Personal share from my own collection.
The swirls are stars burned into the image over a 4 hour timelapse. I used an augmented reality app to find the axis of the earth and then pointed the camera in that direction in the pitch black.

This one was taken on my Grand parents cattle property just after my Grandmother went into care and she never returned to the property. On the night, dad came with me and we parked in the middle of a tall grass paddock. For the next 4 hours, we sat in the warm car, watching Formula One races on his laptop with one eye on the little red light blinking on the back of the camera out in the cold.

This one is really special to me because it was the last time that I visited the property. One of those shots where everything went to plan, I probably couldn't replicate this shot again if I tried.

This random rope swing surfaced at the Colmslie Beach Reserve during a recent family session. I have shot this location for family sessions LITERALLY hundreds of times and this was the only time it was there. A bit of sponanetey and some afternoon sun 🌞+📷 = 👌.

Perfection only lives on Pinterest and there are so many things to consider when shooting on-site. That fantastic headshot with the workshop in the background just may not be possible (or safe) . For the team from Aaromat all we needed was a white wall to give options and to keep all images consistent across some 20 staff on the day.

Plenty of flashbacks on the newsfeed this week. Flashing back to the shoot from the Australasian Cheer and Dance Majors for Nissan Arena. Watching these guys compete through the lens and up close at competitor level was nothing short of spectacular.

Photography will sit alongside a range of new services aimed at helping small businesses look awesome including video, web and graphic design.
