I feel grateful as I get to know and connect with my regular customers, who bring a sense of curiosity and beauty into their homes and workspaces through flowers. Embracing flowers can inspire a deeper appreciation for nature and it’s impact on our well-being. Botanicals invite us to slow down and nurture our inherent bond with the natural world
Created here for a regular customer who enjoys native inspired botanicals, I have chosen seasonal and textual blooms of blending and opposite hues in the colour wheel to create a sense of curiosity and connection

The waratah season is ever so brief, however there are endless creative ways and reasons to design with these beauties. The language of flowers can express heartfelt sentiments that transcend words
October saw quite a number of requested memorial floral tributes. Here, this created floral sheath pays tribute to a vibrant woman whose love of nature’s beauty has had a lasting impact.

Floristry for me is more than just arranging flowers; it’s a canvas for my creativity and allows me to share my appreciation and wonder of creation and the natural world.
Creating with flowers throughout the changing seasons brings an abundant and diverse array of botanicals, each with unique beauty and characteristics.
Natives are a favorite genre in the area. But I do enjoy the opportunity to create with roses and accompanying botanicals. For this gift sending a celebratory birthday greeting, I began with these aptly named Lush, such a pop of colour and an elegant bloom. I have accompanied them with ever-so-fragrant cymbidium orchid, hellebore for her rhythmic flow, and this unnamed fern with ever-so-fluffy textural fronds. It’s these quirks of nature that spark my creativity as I gleam such beauties at market.
Gifting and receiving flowers also provide an opportunity to delight the senses, stirring curiosity, and offering a glimpse into the captivating world of plants.

Connection…
Pausing long enough to listen to the deep rhythms of nature
Slow to the pace of nature .. it’s changing all the time, but it’s not at our own calling but that of it’s own
As I florist I feel privileged to live and breathe within the framework of connecting and creating with nature. As I work with the characteristics and flaws within botanicals, i find that I can still marvel at their beauty. I’m reminded of Alice Walker’s words - “In nature, nothing is perfect, yet everything is perfect.”
I find inspiration in this perspective. Freedom comes from acknowledging and embracing life’s imperfections and challenges, and also through accepting and celebrating that this imperfect beauty gives life greater value.

There are times birthday deliveries are made early to make sure their gift isn’t sitting all day on their doorstep. As I drove this morning I witnessed the beauty of nature’s artistry as the pre-sunrise sky evolved into a kaleidoscope of colour, with the inspiration to embrace the day

Wedding day florals play a beautiful part in helping to set the scene for honouring and celebrating a couple’s momentous occasion
As a bespoke wedding florist, I’m here to chat ideas, answer questions and help to maximise your budget. I’m a supporter of repurposing florals where possible. For Sahanna and Joe 28.1, the ceremony’s isle florals became table centre pieces for their reception. The weather needs to be considered when repurposing, however when there is minimal outdoor time, florals can be minimally impacted by warmer days

For Caitlyn & James 22:1 As we chattered through their ideas for their wedding at Barwon Park Mansion, I envisioned a theatrical vibe to their day . It’s a theme that invites creativity and imagination in bringing their vision to life.
Caitlyn expressed that she was fond of dahlias. I felt these vibrant and show-stopping blooms were the perfect foundation to their wedding day florals.
In the Victorian Era, when floriography (the language of flowers) was an important consideration, dahlias were symbolic of devotion and love of beauty. These meanings can hold the same relevance today, adding a beautiful depth to their florals
The inclusion of hanging amaranths provided a rhythmic flow to the bouquets. Accompanying seasonal botanicals were chosen to complement and add texture
Choosing blooms to complement the attire of Caitlin’s bridal party in tones of pinks, burgundy, and red was an enjoyable and creative process. Seeing how the flower and colour choices all came together on the day gives me a feeling of contentment

As summer weddings come to a close for A Flourish of Flowers and we enter a season of autumn weddings, I am reminded of the recent season of spring and the beautiful couples we created for
Eliza and James, it was an absolute delight to collaborate with you for your beautiful day, and your bridal party of 16. The vibrancy of colour matched the feel of the day and smiles on everyone’s faces which was captured by the photographers story telling. Pantelis Keane Photo
As we chattered through Eliza’s ideas, the description of her beautiful gown and the choice of colours for the bridal party, it became clear to create the bouquets with a single flower variety for each attendant. This way, each bouquet was an extension of each outfit and complimented perfectly. I loved the way each of Eliza’s attendees chose their own flower variety on the day to match their style And most importantly, for Eliza, her bridal bouquet, peonies being a favourite, was an extension of her persona and gown
For the backdrop of this momentous occasion, 100 tulips were threaded, hydrated and suspended from the 4 posted arbour. To see the waltz of tulips in the breeze as they were hung was delightful and quite mesmerising. It was a satisfying moment, to see the vision and all the planning come to life
Eliza and James chose to ‘sit amongst the flowers’ for their celebratory dinner with their guests. Rather than table numbers, the single flower variety theme followed through to the reception florals. Keeping to the colour palate, 10 spring bloom varieties were chosen to adorn each table.
This collaboration requires connection, and I find much joy when this connection happens and we creatively plan and design wedding day florals

Gratefulness nurtures a trustful optimism for the journey ahead

As this year draws to a close, I take time away to slow my pace, to reflect on the roller coaster ride that it has been, it helps to remember that through the stormy days I am thankful for connections, for those who have been there to rekindle the spark when my light has been dim. For the encouragement I have received to keep my business ticking along reminding me that creating provides a sense of enjoyment and purpose

Dear Floral Tribe …
Connect intentionally with your sense of wonder into the botanical world. It is ever changing. It’s wonderful when we have a cross over when some botanicals like the protea species, geraldton wax flower, & luecaspernums are nearing the end and Australia’s Christmas bush bursts in with it’s glossy foliage and citrusy & earthy patchouli fragrance.
Early in the season, this native shrub’s small creamy-white flowers then give way to showy red or pink bracts later in the season. For me, there is such delight in the way these blooms change in shade within the season
Gifts of floral love can be gifted in vases so all the recipient needs to do is to enjoy the florals and breathe in their fragrance. Bouquets are hand tied making it easier to lift out, to keep the vase squeaky clean with fresh water, prolonging the floral’s vase life

It’s wonderful when the season’s availability aliens with botanicals that are on the bride’s wish list. Proteas were on Nina’s list. I do my utmost to source fresh and as locally grown as possible and it was a thrill to see that Mother Nature had come to the party.
However we can never guarantee what Mother Nature provides. With this in mind, I don’t make false promises for any preferences but be assured, when alternatives are needed, I put my heart and soul into sourcing beautiful blooms that help to ‘tell your story’ and create the ambience you would like to set for you and your guests. Both are important to me for the end result of your florals

Recently I have grasped afresh how much our life is a cycle of change, and the seasons are just another reminder of that, nature is ever changing and at it’s heart, we can do well to embrace the changes
As the spring blooms come to an end I would like to pay homage to waratahs once more, bidding farewell a few weeks ago for another season. It’s lovely to know we have the gorgeous flannel flower for a few more weeks
