Pausing long enough to listen to the deep rhythms of nature
Slow to the pace of nature .. it’s changing all the time, but it’s not at our own calling but that of it’s own
As I florist I feel privileged to live and breathe within the framework of connecting and creating with nature. As I work with the characteristics and flaws within botanicals, i find that I can still marvel at their beauty. I’m reminded of Alice Walker’s words - “In nature, nothing is perfect, yet everything is perfect.”
I find inspiration in this perspective. Freedom comes from acknowledging and embracing life’s imperfections and challenges, and also through accepting and celebrating that this imperfect beauty gives life greater value.

There are times birthday deliveries are made early to make sure their gift isn’t sitting all day on their doorstep. As I drove this morning I witnessed the beauty of nature’s artistry as the pre-sunrise sky evolved into a kaleidoscope of colour, with the inspiration to embrace the day

Wedding day florals play a beautiful part in helping to set the scene for honouring and celebrating a couple’s momentous occasion
As a bespoke wedding florist, I’m here to chat ideas, answer questions and help to maximise your budget. I’m a supporter of repurposing florals where possible. For Sahanna and Joe 28.1, the ceremony’s isle florals became table centre pieces for their reception. The weather needs to be considered when repurposing, however when there is minimal outdoor time, florals can be minimally impacted by warmer days

For Caitlyn & James 22:1 As we chattered through their ideas for their wedding at Barwon Park Mansion, I envisioned a theatrical vibe to their day . It’s a theme that invites creativity and imagination in bringing their vision to life.
Caitlyn expressed that she was fond of dahlias. I felt these vibrant and show-stopping blooms were the perfect foundation to their wedding day florals.
In the Victorian Era, when floriography (the language of flowers) was an important consideration, dahlias were symbolic of devotion and love of beauty. These meanings can hold the same relevance today, adding a beautiful depth to their florals
The inclusion of hanging amaranths provided a rhythmic flow to the bouquets. Accompanying seasonal botanicals were chosen to complement and add texture
Choosing blooms to complement the attire of Caitlin’s bridal party in tones of pinks, burgundy, and red was an enjoyable and creative process. Seeing how the flower and colour choices all came together on the day gives me a feeling of contentment

As summer weddings come to a close for A Flourish of Flowers and we enter a season of autumn weddings, I am reminded of the recent season of spring and the beautiful couples we created for
Eliza and James, it was an absolute delight to collaborate with you for your beautiful day, and your bridal party of 16. The vibrancy of colour matched the feel of the day and smiles on everyone’s faces which was captured by the photographers story telling. Pantelis Keane Photo
As we chattered through Eliza’s ideas, the description of her beautiful gown and the choice of colours for the bridal party, it became clear to create the bouquets with a single flower variety for each attendant. This way, each bouquet was an extension of each outfit and complimented perfectly. I loved the way each of Eliza’s attendees chose their own flower variety on the day to match their style And most importantly, for Eliza, her bridal bouquet, peonies being a favourite, was an extension of her persona and gown
For the backdrop of this momentous occasion, 100 tulips were threaded, hydrated and suspended from the 4 posted arbour. To see the waltz of tulips in the breeze as they were hung was delightful and quite mesmerising. It was a satisfying moment, to see the vision and all the planning come to life
Eliza and James chose to ‘sit amongst the flowers’ for their celebratory dinner with their guests. Rather than table numbers, the single flower variety theme followed through to the reception florals. Keeping to the colour palate, 10 spring bloom varieties were chosen to adorn each table.
This collaboration requires connection, and I find much joy when this connection happens and we creatively plan and design wedding day florals

Dear Floral Tribe …
Connect intentionally with your sense of wonder into the botanical world. It is ever changing. It’s wonderful when we have a cross over when some botanicals like the protea species, geraldton wax flower, & luecaspernums are nearing the end and Australia’s Christmas bush bursts in with it’s glossy foliage and citrusy & earthy patchouli fragrance.
Early in the season, this native shrub’s small creamy-white flowers then give way to showy red or pink bracts later in the season. For me, there is such delight in the way these blooms change in shade within the season
Gifts of floral love can be gifted in vases so all the recipient needs to do is to enjoy the florals and breathe in their fragrance. Bouquets are hand tied making it easier to lift out, to keep the vase squeaky clean with fresh water, prolonging the floral’s vase life

It’s wonderful when the season’s availability aliens with botanicals that are on the bride’s wish list. Proteas were on Nina’s list. I do my utmost to source fresh and as locally grown as possible and it was a thrill to see that Mother Nature had come to the party.
However we can never guarantee what Mother Nature provides. With this in mind, I don’t make false promises for any preferences but be assured, when alternatives are needed, I put my heart and soul into sourcing beautiful blooms that help to ‘tell your story’ and create the ambience you would like to set for you and your guests. I find it has a tendency to take me to a place of creativity She gently whispers and beckons one to explore the art of color companions. Mauve has a beautiful way of softly changing when combined with earthly browns, soft greys, fresh mint green, buttery lemon or even sage, each pairing beautifully in harmonious duets.
Mauve has a wonderful balance and harmony as the shades blend either warm or cool tones with equilibrium. Here, with this gift of floral love offering a message of a speedy recovery, I have created by delving into the realm of monochromatic hues. From the central mauve shade, there are many variations and blends of soft pinks and brighter shades of purple that unfold and take us on a captivating journey within the single colour. Have fun as you plan for your momentous day, the colour vibe that you choose allows you to shine through any colour of the rainbow. Colours evoke emotions and helps to set the ambience for you both, your day and your guests. Whether you go for your favourite or a colour mood that helps to accent the season.
For E & N and their winter wedding. A very happy first anniversary for this beautiful twosome who waited out the covid years, three planned dates later, their day arrived, and they were gifted with clear blue skies
A seasonal mix of blooms wirh accents of burgundy, dusky pinks and pops of red in the grevillea all brought a warmth to the colour palate. Collaborating with the couple who were seeking a foliage outside the norm, I suggested a variety of lush ferns would bring a winter vibe and a beautiful drape and flow to the design that they were seeking. The selection of ferns and mossy logs also captured the essence of surrounding landscape.
Creamy white hydrangeas nurtured by one of my local growers and picked on an equally crisp winter day were such a surprise to discover. Theses stunning blooms paired perfectly with Fragrant Wintersweet and cymbidium orchids for the arbour installation.
I created the tablescape florals as minimalist mossy gardens featuring the full range of selected roses and cymbidium orchids, they brought a unique and memorable dining experience to the celebration meal shared by family and friends

Delivering the florals to the bridal party on the day, i feel a rush of emotions flow through my being. It’s not only having the privilege to enter their ‘world’ for a moment in time but also to observe and be swept up in the emotions of the couple and those supporting them on their day.
For Mariska it was no different. There was the added privilege of attaching a family heirloom … a keepsake brooch to the binding of her bouquet. It was given to Mariska from her maternal grandmother - ‘Ouma'
Mariska described her as her hero growing up The brooch provided a symbolic and much needed connection when Ouma’s physical presence wasn’t possible
Family heirlooms connect a family’s past with the present and help to keep family memories and stories alive. Special events like weddings where the significance of intergenerational bonds often come together are the perfect opportunity to integrate these treasures if at all possible

With the clear and calm skies leading up to this Easter season of reflection, I took time at various times of the evening and night skies to enjoy the beauty of the Easter full moon known for being at it’s brightest and largest of the year. During this time the moon catches earth’s reflected glow and returns that light. The monthly moon cycles are a wonderful reminder of the ever changing life cycles, one of nature’s rhythms and the interconnectedness of all life. Curiosity leads to wonder as I bask in moon’s light reflected from the Sun. It’s beauty is a gentle reminder for me to pause and re focus my attention on acknowledging my shortcomings, letting go of old ways,
and embracing the benefits of nurturing inner growth; grateful for grace

How do dreams come to life? With passion, determination, and the wonders of creativity. . When Lim from Malaysia contacted A Flourish of Flowers with a week before his weekend plans to fly to Australia with his girlfriend; time was of the essence. His dream was to declare his love and propose to his girlfriend somewhere on the stunning great ocean road. That’s when creativity enters, stepping into the gap between the dream and the vision coming to life. It’s this expression of creativity that I enjoy, it brings purpose into to the art of living. A seed is sown, ideas are thought through, obstacles overcome, growth occurs and clarity comes into the journey . As I collaborated with Lim on the itinerary for his planned road trip, we settled on a destination that provided an opportunity to embrace the beauty of the landscape and to awaken their sense of curiosity. I decided to ‘plant’ Australian grown roses in the native flora that lined the path for the couple to seek out and collect as they wove their way to the lookout that I had adorned, it was here Lim would share his heart and his dreams for a life with his girl Lee . After witnessing this intimate window of time and congratulating the couple, Lee shared with me her surprise at how this all came to be, how this momentous occasion was planned so far from their home town . In honour of Her Majesty the Queen … I’m not a royalist by any means, but today, as I created and delivered floral gifts of love, I pondered about Queen Elizabeth’s life. For her love of colour and for her family. As a florist, the heart and inspiration of my creativity are; respecting and allowing the beauty in botanical nature to shine, selecting market fresh and locally grown botanical materials that express the style of your chosen arrangement or occasion, and assisting you to pass on your sentiments to your recipient through the gift of flowers.

As a home-based small business, the stock is kept to a minimum, this way, what I create and send out on your behalf is fresh from the grower or from the market and personalised just for you or your recipient. Ideally, orders need to be in by MONDAY EVENING OR WEDNESDAY EVENING for the following day's flower market.
