Swayambar.
To signify intention to marry, the bride adorns a decorative garland ('Dubo ko Mala') around her chosen companion, who reciprocates, and the two exchange rings.
The Mala is made from Bermuda grass which does not fade or wilt after being picked from the ground, staying well preserved. It represents a long and happy marriage full of good fortune.

Mandap - A&G
This specially erected canapoy is tradtionally made up of banana stems. A sacred fire (considered a witness in the rituals) is lit while a priest ('Pundit') facilitates the ceremony based on auspicious timings, chanting various Vedic hymns and prayers to involve the blessings of all Hindu gods and the support of every element under the sun that will have a role in the conjugal life of the couple. The five basic elements of earth, air, fire, water and sky are highlighted time and again during the ceremony.

Janti - A&G

The groom's procession, known as the 'Janti', is compised of the groom's friends and family, who dance their way to the bride's home or wedding venue to the tune of traditional music ('Panche Baja') bringing gifts and sweets ('Saipata") for the bride's family. They are welcomed with a feast (Janti Bhoj') while the groom is escorted by the bride's father towards the 'Jaggey' aka 'Mandap' where the wedding rituals will take place.
