I went to a fabulous networking ‘Big Breaky’ last week with Origin Woman Network. I met some inspirational women, including this lovely lady Nat who runs Redefine Life a low cost counseling service open for everyone to use.
There was a fabulous panel, each with a unique story about their business journey.
Big congrats to Mira and Kath for hosting such an amazing event, I love being part of this movement.

RECEPROCITY: A Celebration of Women Elevating, Connecting and Collaborating

Last month, I organised and hosted a fabulous event called ‘Reciprocity’, an inspiring all-women networking event, art exhibition and launch of Art For Today’s Corporate Wellbeing Art Sessions. Reciprocity brought together motivated women from different business backgrounds and arena’s to connect, elevate and collaborate.

The evening featured two standout guest speakers Monique Silk and Penny van der Sluys.

Monique Silk, Artist and Curator at St. Vincent's Hospital, commenced the event with a beautiful Acknowledgement of Country, highlighting the profound connection of Australia's First Nations people with the land. She then passionately advocated for the arts, emphasising the emotional connections people form when engaging with artwork. Monique encouraged us all to spend more time deeply engaging with art, noting our emotional responses. She articulated how engaging with original paintings can enhance our ability to emotionally communicate, tap into our own creativity, and enhance and expand our thought processes.

I then introduced Art for Today’s 'Corporate Wellbeing Art Sessions,' highlighting the benefits of creativity in the workplace. These sessions are aimed at boosting productivity, inspiring fresh ideas, and encouraging lateral thinking. They also help alleviate burnout, reduce stress and anxiety, and promote stronger connections among team members.

Our second guest speaker was Penny van der Sluys, who led us through a heartfelt exercise that deepened our connection to our bodies and each other. Using Taylor Swift as an example, she emphasised the importance of connection and creating community. Penny is a Pleasure Activist, Adventurer, Feminine Empowerment Coach, Conscious Creative, and Connector. She specialises in empowering women in midlife who are struggling to love their bodies and prioritise pleasure, play, and passion. Penny also hosts an insightful podcast, 'TURNED ON: Wild Free & Sexy in your midlife,' which I highly recommend listening to.

The event showcased a collection of artworks that I, Gemma Donnellan, have dedicated years to painting. This collection includes the immersive Crystal Collection, as well as sensual perfume bottles, dreamy landscapes, florals, and abstract artworks.

The event's true highlight was the spirit of reciprocity. The idea of giving and receiving with generosity, elevating one another, and collaborating without expectation is incredibly powerful when embraced by women.

It created an uplifting space for women across industries to connect authentically, swapping stories, sharing advice, and forming new connections and creative sparks, with an authentic desire to support one another's growth.

For me, that ethos of reciprocity amongst women is transformative. When we come together in community, collaborate openly, and elevate each other's talents and wisdom, we all rise. Our individual successes become collective wins.

People left Reciprocity with their hearts full, and appreciative of the incredible women they connected with. From the bottom of my heart I’d also love to thank all the people who supported me and helped me put this event together, I could not have done it alone.

Gemma's journey has led her to connect with individuals from diverse industries, thanks to her exceptional organizational skills and event-coordinating expertise. She has worked in fields such as architecture, environmental engineering, telecommunications (Telstra), food (Kraft Foods), consulting (KPMG), banking (ANZ), and mining.

Exciting news! I'm thrilled that a group of talented student filmmakers from Swinburne University of Technology are using my (Gemma Donnellan) artworks in their upcoming short film ‘Pickled’.

When they reached out to Art For Today, I was excited to provide them with the artwork they needed to bring their sets and creative vision to life. As a Creative Coach, it’s rewarding for me to support and nurture the artistic endeavours of others.

Throughout my life, I have been fortunate to have had mentors and people take me under their wings, give me great advice and help me out, to now be in a position where I can help out and give back, feels fabulous.

I believe sharing resources, knowledge and time is a beautiful act of reciprocity that enriches our community as a whole.

It's a reminder that Artists of all disciplines need support in one way or another, we're all on this journey together, and by lifting each other, we all rise.

I know this group of students have worked tirelessly to make this happen, using dark comedy, they shine a light on issues and struggles people face in our community today. We need to encourage these storytellers and artists to help us see life through new perspectives.

Here's to many more collaborations that foster creativity, encourage artistic expression, and inspire us all to keep pushing boundaries.

I can't wait to see the final short film ‘Pickled’, and a big congratulations to all who have worked on it, I wish it every success.

My heart is filled with joy as my 'Ladies Art Session' came to a close yesterday. It has been an absolute privilege to share my art table with many wonderful women. We've not only created beautiful artwork but had a lot of fun, great conversations and newfound friendships. 🎨🌺

This experience has been a transformative journey for me as well. Witnessing the blossoming creativity of my students has been the most rewarding part. I'm especially proud of Carol, who had never picked up a paintbrush before, she completed these two lovely landscape paintings in our final class. 💐

I'm excited to embark on a new chapter – bringing the healing power of art to the corporate world. My goal is to foster wellbeing and nurture creativity within corporate teams, creating a space for them to unleash their inner artists and find solace amidst their busy lives. 🌟

I am excited to make the switch from my Gemma Donnellan - Artist Page to my company name 'Art For Today'.

I am now focusing on wellbeing Art Sessions for corporate and social groups, which is where I hope to make a difference.

Here is a little excerpt from my personal mission statement.

"I love my art sessions they always have the desired outcomes which is to be fun, uplifting, stress relieving, freeing people’s minds, and bringing people together as a team and community. As a creative coach, one of my greatest joys is helping others unlock their creative potential and adopt an unlimited mindset. When people open up to their inherent creativity, it can spark powerful new beginnings in their lives.

By embracing creativity, people often experience more positive flow, less stress, and a greater sense of freedom. Removing barriers to creative thinking allows people to visualise new possibilities and move forward with passion.

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing others positively transform through harnessing the power of their creativity. When people connect to their authentic self and purpose through creative expression, they gain the confidence to make meaningful change.

Making a real difference in people's lives is what motivates me in my work. Guiding others down a path of limitless thinking, joy and meaning is truly fulfilling.

Gorgeous art session on Saturday afternoon with these beautiful ladies. Great conversation, delicious food and lots of fun painting. I guided them through an abstract theme, wonderful to see all of their unique interpretations.

We had yummy afternoon tea including hot scones, fresh fruit, a churcutarie board and delicious desserts along with some awesome music.

I'm overflowing with ideas and excitement for future Art ForToday sessions. My goal is to spread more joy, mindfulness, and human connection through artistic expression. A wonderful 2023 wrap up with this inspirational group of Business women at 'Women Getting Results' run by our amazing business mentor/coach/leader Caren Hendrie.

This year I won a 'Special Achievement' award, for which I am proud and grateful.

It's been a year of change and development for me and my business 'Art for Today' having been mentored and guided by Caren has been invaluable and helped me reach new heights.

In their unique way, all of the women in this group have contributed to my growth, their support, understanding, wisdom and combined brains trust have been invaluable.

I have made some wonderful friends and I'm looking forward to exciting adventures next year.
