George Khouzame sometimes known simply as Khazzoum is an Australian of Lebanese – Descent, long known to the Middle Eastern community in Australia as a self-taught business man. Born in 1950 in Lebanon and raised in Assoun a small village in the mountains of North Lebanon,
George Khouzame was only 20 years old, when he first migrated to Australia. George commenced working in the Lebanese newspaper
as a news reporter and translator for
Voice of Migrant. During 1972-1974 George was appointed Editor for Al-Talea magazine. By 1972, at the age of 21 George Khouzame established the ‘Self-Help Social Centre’ which later became ‘Lebanese Welfare Centre’ in Campsie, assisting migrants in Sydney. In the same year,
George was appointed to the position of Project Officer for the South West Sydney Emergency
Unemployment Committee and Community Youth Support Scheme where he started to teach English and social topics to adults newcomers. After the civil war broke out in Lebanon in 1975 which displaced many Lebanese people from their homes, including George Khouzame’ own family. George Khouzame opened office LWC freely and assisted many families settle in Sydney. During this period George met Julie Gittany from Zhgarta, North Lebanon, while working at the Canterbury NSW Health Commission. Two years later they married. They are the
parents of three sons Najee, Chady and George Junior and a daughter Priscilla who all reside in Sydney, Australia. In December 1985 George and Julie Khouzame established Lebanese Catering Service after
one of their good friends –who also became his first initial client, approached him to create
the wedding for his eldest son. George and Julie were never interested in food and had no
experience. Thus, from that wedding many doors opened up for George and Julie and they began their catering business. Together, they began teaching each other to create great events with the Middle Eastern traditions and culture. In the early 2000’s Georges two eldest children Najee and Priscilla relaunched, and the George
Khouzame Group brand emerged, a chic and sophisticated Catering and Event Company a result of the collaboration between brother-sister team that has successfully enhanced the Middle
Eastern gastronomic scene in Sydney and infusing the Western and Eastern Cultures together. In 2005 George Khouzame relocated to a new building in one of Sydney’s most multicultural
suburbs, Bankstown. The space is not only the corporate offices, but also houses there
commercial kitchen and cooking classes. The Khouzame name has become an established name in Sydney, Australia showcasing Modern Middle Eastern Cuisine and caters more than 400 events each year. Today this name has developed a reputation that is based on Family, Food and Culture these ingredients are the building foundations behind the Khouzame name. George Khouzame group today has expanded into Special Events, Charity and Entertainment. In 2010 George Khouzame, established the Magnificence of the Middle East. A premier event hosted in Sydney that showcases the sheer elegance, luxury and beauty of the Middle East.
