1990 to 1995 Rave bogan to Chef/Dj Perth Western Australia

1990 to 1995...
High school in Perth:
Listening to mums eclectic mix of disco and pop from the 60's, 70's and 80's on 12 inch... radios and walkmans with cassette tapes...loads of hip hop, early dance music and heavy metal.

Playing basketball you listened to hip hop... playing Aussie rules you listened to rock music... being a theatre arts nerd you listened to underground or popular dance music.

I remember back in 1995... the year I moved out from home whilst graduating year 12 college. My housemates and I threw a small graduation party. We had "Mr Jibba Jabba of the neighbourhood'' bring in his local band, myself and a few friends who were bedroom dj/party rockers. My younger brother charged a $2 entry fee for select year 10 and year 11 students to attend... it paid for the sound system, lights etc etc

Banging tunes, amazing band and 7 cop cars later the party got shut down just after midnight with 300 plus people told to disperse. The bad ones doing burnouts as they left the party.

Luckily my private landlord at the time was super cool and didn't give us too much s**t.

1996…
I entered culinary college whilst flipping burgers to pay the bills... a bunch of odd jobs as the side hustle and later I became the "APPRENTICE CHEF OF THE YEAR!" (Great pick up line when you're up in da club...lol!).

1997 - 1999…
I was finally on my way to becoming a Chef through an amazing group of people who still inspire me today. Rent prices were going up so I ended up becoming a glassy and stock controller at the Globe Nightclub to subsidise the lack of dollars as an apprentice chef. The music, the movement and the underground power of helped me decide that food and music was my passion.

1998... I bought my first turntables from Buzz (The nicest sound engineer that I knew at the time) from The Globe Nightclub and started my journey as a bedroom dj/ glassy/ apprentice chef.

1999 -2021... Chef by day/ Dj by night.
As the long lingering fingers of sunlight drape its tender caress of warmth over the Perth horizon...many memories of joy fill my heart.
Thank you to all the crew who have made the West Aussie scene possible. Life's a beat... lick the speaker.
