It is finals weekend here at Tennis Australia's December Showdown right here in Bendigo! 🎾

Come on down to see Australia's best junior players showcase their talents at the 16/u and 18/u National Championships and see the best players from the 2024 Progress Series Prizemoney Race!

In addition to competing for national titles, the overall winner of the 16/u Australian Championships will be awarded with a main draw singles wildcard into the Australian Open 2025 Junior Championships.

Meanwhile, the singles winners of the 18/u Australian Championships will be awarded a qualifying singles wildcard into an Australian Pro Tour event in 2025.

The Progress Series Masters event offers a total of $30,000 in prizemoney, bringing together the 16 best players from the 2024 Progress Series prizemoney race.

16/u Semi Finals on Saturday and Finals on Sunday.
18/u Semi Finals Saturday and Finals on Sunday.

November O3K & Community Series Wrap-Up:

Mineth Nawarathna was crowned the Open 3K Men's Singles winner with a 6-1 6-4 win over Scott Pearse. Vaishnavi Xiao was crowned the Open 3K Women's winner with a 7-6 6-0 win over local youngster Willow Kelly. Both Mineth & Vaishnavi walked away with $550 in prize money, while Scott & Willow received $250 each.

Scott Pearse got on the winners list in the Men's Doubles with partner Deagan Tomkins with a 3-6 6-2 10-6 match tiebreak win against Matthieu Gibert and Jeremy O'Brien. Hope Curtis-Mcdonald and Rhiann Eddy claimed the glory in the Women's Doubles Final as they beat Kerrie Clarke and Bronte Mcgregor in a close encounter 6-3 5-7 10-8. Rhiann and Bronte are both currently playing with South Bendigo in the BTA A Grade Pennant. Doubles winners received $150 each while runners-up receive $75 each.

Throughout this year, we've introduced Community Series events to our tournaments. These events provide players with the opportunity to play more tennis over the course of the tournament.

In the Women's events, Emma Robinson won the Women's A Grade Singles, while Bronte Mcgregor and Rhiann Eddy teamed up to win the A Grade Doubles. Lowenna Embury and Akira Mishima-Hardy were crowned the B Grade Doubles winners thanks to two walkovers.

In the Men's events, Marcus Newnham was the A Grade winner and Josh Jennings the B Grade winner in singles. In doubles, Matthieu Gibert and Jeremy O'Brien got their winners medals after early disappointment in the Open event final, while South Bendigo's Sid Vijay and partner Kade Starling took out the B Grade final.

November J125 & Community Series Wrap-Up:

Local player, Clayton Fleming claimed the U10 Boys Singles crown as he defeated Maxwell Jennings 6-2 in the final. While another local, Winnie Kelly, claimed the U10 Girls Singles crown as she went 5 wins from 5 matches in the round robin format, Coco James was the runner-up. Winnie with Arlo Hannan then went on to win the Mixed U10 Doubles, with Clayton Fleming & Heidi Fitzgerald the runner-up.

Henry Grattan won 6-0 6-2 in the U12 Boys Final over Vedant Raskar, with Ella Forde winning 6-2 7-6 in the Girls U12 Final over Amyralyna Ryan. Harper & Henry Grattan claimed the Boys U12 Doubles over Aadi Shankara Nori & Vedant Raskar. Amira Wahby & Aya Wahby won the U12 Girls Doubles round robin, with Olive Mcphee & Amyralyna Ryan runners-up.

Theodore Gibert got a walkover victory in the final of the U14 Boys Singles, with Eli Kingma unable to play the final. Sienna Grgic secured a 6-4 6-3 win over Chalwe Bowler to win the U14 Girls Singles Final. Theodore Gibert & Riley Kernutt claimed the U14 Boys Doubles over Eli Kingma & Kade Starling. Elsa Grgic & Sienna Grgic won the U14 Girls Doubles Round Robin, with locals Amra Fleming and Vaida Penno runners-up.

Sucher Chavaan claimed the Under 16 Boys title with a 6-3 6-1 win over runner-up Sam Carbone. Arayna Kumar was the Girls U16 winner, beating Hanna Schoenmaekers 6-2 6-1. Manol Atanasov & Hamish Mcnaughton claimed the U16 Boys Doubles crown beating Oscar Mulholland & Thomas Van Niekerk in the final. Hanna Schoenmaekers & Keira Simpson were declared the winners of the Girls U16 Doubles, after finishing on top of the Round Robin ladder, Lowenna Embury and Akira Mishima-Hardy runners-up.

In the community series events, Arthur Lussiana won the U13 Boys, Chalwe Bowler won the U13 Girls and Rafael Fung won the U15 Boys.

Thanks to everyone that contributed to an amazing tournament in Bendigo, we can't wait to see you all back on court here at the BRTC!

Throwback to the Rafa Nadal Tour 🙌🏻

What a weekend! We were thrilled to be chosen to host this incredible event here in Bendigo, with 231 entries competing in the 12/u & 14/u divisions. What we love most about this tour is seeing so many young people active on the court, with a strong focus on both sport and education—values we hold close at the Bendigo Tennis Association. Our goal is to help people live happy, active lives, and this event truly captured that!

After a successful season 2 of Flexi Pennant, Season 3 is about to start! 🎾

Flexi-Pennant is a singles competition that provides greater flexibility to players than ever before. Season 3 will start from Monday 28th of October and run through to Saturday 30th of November.

For anyone interested in signing up for the upcoming season, please register at Bendigo Tennis Association page https://fgtc.formstack.com/forms/flexi_pennant_registration as soon as possible to ensure you're enter come Monday's start date!

Over the weekend, select players were invited to play for Loddon Campaspe in Shepparton at Tennis Victoria’s second Regional Team Event of the year, with players representing in 10 and under, 12 and under, 14 and under and Junior Open (Under 18’s).

In the 10 and under event, Loddon Campaspe finished 2nd overall on the ladder, with no finals played. The team finished with four wins and one loss which was at the hands of the eventual winners Mornington Peninsula. The 10 and under team as made up by Ronny Epps, Clayton Fleming, Winnie Kelly and Heidi Fitzgerald.

Loddon Campaspe’s 12 and under team won their event after topping their pool and then defeating Barwon in the final 3 rubbers to 1. As the team consisting of Eli Kingma, Jaxon Eddy, Gracie Seipolt and Vaida Penno didn’t lose a single match showcasing their skills the entire weekend.

The 14 and under Loddon Campaspe team finished first in their pool and looked set to replicate the 12 and under teams’ success but narrowly fell short as rubbers were tied but Barwon edging Loddon out on sets and games to be declared the winners. Loddon’s team was made up by Kade Starling, Eoin Ryan, Willow Kelly and Skylar Austin.

In the Junior Open event, Loddon Campaspe team finished second in their pool after Barwon edged them out in the last pool game, but the tournament wasn’t over as they still had the third and fourth playoff match. The team of Lewis Murray and Joaquin Demaria O’Sullivan, Rhiann Eddy and Bronte McGregor claimed a third-place finish after a comfortable win over Mornington Peninsula in the playoff match for third.

Nathan Broad put his hand up to help a team in need of an additional player, that team was North East in the Junior Open (Under 18’s). North East ending up claiming the Junior Open title. Cielo Demaria O’Sullivan assisted Central Highlands Junior Open team, which finished sixth.

Alongside the Open 3K and Junior 125 events, there will also be a Community Series Event so players can play more tennis, and there'll even be a Red Ball competition run for the younger ones!
