I have a confession to make - DID YOU KNOW I HARDLY NOTICE YOUR WEDDING DAY OUTFITS?

Don't get me wrong, my focus is always the two of you, your body language, your facial expressions, watching how you are feeling during your wedding ceremony, making sure you're OK.

I'm watching out for you the entire time - do you need a drink, a little break, a tissue, an encouraging word, or a hand on your shoulder?

That's why I adore seeing your wedding pics, especially when they are as glorious as these - beautiful Alysha last Saturday - taken by the always wonderful 🤍

FUN FACT ABOUT ME - I LOVE AN ADVENT CALENDAR!

And am so excited that today I was able to start on this beauty from .

When my kids were little, I'd search high and low for the traditional kind that usually came from Germany with beautiful illustrations and everything about Christmas in a cold climate.

This one is a thoughtful gift from my beautiful daughter and behind each door is a spice blend and recipe - off to a great start with vanillan sugar mix and recipe for creme brulee - welcome December, you are looking very festive!

MICRO WEDDINGS ARE IN!

One of the biggest changes I've seen since becoming a celebrant is the rise of micro weddings.

You can have everything you've ever dreamt about for your wedding day minus the exhorbitant cost and extensive guest list. (and a perfect excuse not to have to invite all those boring cousins that you never see and don't really like!)

At Elope Bendigo!, our Micro Wedding package is our most popular - up to 30 guests, a lovely short and sweet ceremony, and 1.5 hours of photography - all for a very competitive price.

Here are Bianca and Dom at their micro wedding recently at the fabulous .

And sure, anyone with a decent phone can take some pics for you, but look at the beautiful composition and quality of this shot from ❤️

If you are thinking about a micro wedding, give me a call - I'd love to chat some more.

LOOKING FOR A PRESENT FOR A CELEBRANT? 🎁

As they say, 'Your search ends here'. I am currently reading this book and savouring it in small, delicious moments. You know the book that you are loving so much that you don't want it to end? This is THAT BOOK!

Trent Dalton set up a table and chair on a busy Brisbane street corner during the pandemic and asked random strangers to tell him a love story. This is the result, and oh my heart, it is achingly beautiful and sad and uplifting, all at once.

So, buy it for yourself (or for a celebrant you love). And thank you for your beautiful writing and inspiration, ❤️

DAISY & JOSH - A MCDONALDS LOVE STORY 🍔

I've married quite a few couples who met at Maccas - either working there together as teenagers or having a first date there.

Daisy and Josh met because of a Nunawading store policy change! The manager thought it would be more personal if a customer was asked their name when placing an order instead of being given a number.

So when Daisy was smiling brightly behind the till on the day Josh popped in to buy a burger, she followed the new protocol and asked for his name. Josh was a little bit delighted by this, so replied, "I'm Josh, what's your name?"

Later that night, after an extensive Facebook stalk, he found Daisy and shot off a message: "Are you the beautiful Daisy I met at Nunawading Maccas today?"

And thus began a beautiful love story that has been going strong ever since, when they finally tied the knot at Balgownie on the 10th anniversary of that McDonalds meeting.

Thanks for having me, you adorable sweethearts - I loved every minute of my time spent with you! ❤️

And thanks for another of your incredible images.

TWO BEAUTIFUL SUNDAYS - TWO BEAUTIFUL NAMING DAY CEREMONIES FOR SAMI AND HUDSON ❤️❤️

Many people ask me, 'What is a naming day?' I explain it as being like a christening or baptism without the religion - pretty much the same as the way marriages have evolved outside the church.

Formally welcoming a new life into your wider family and community of friends - one of my favourite ceremonies!

DO WE REALLY NEED TO WRITE OUR OWN WEDDING VOWS?

Short answer is no, but look at Taija and Jack, nailing this incredible moment!

And do take a moment to appreciate the backdrop beauty of at the top of Mt Macedon. This magical place was discovered by Taija and Jack during the Covid pandemic, when they found themselves exploring places in Victoria they had never been before.

This is also one of my favourite places and now I have another reason to love it - the memory of this beautiful day!

Working together with was amazing, as always - thanks for these shots ❤️.

Here are Jordan and Jordie, legally married on the slopes of Leanganook on a very cold wintery day, surrounded by their closest family.

Then in October, they jetted off to Paris for a ceremony in the shadows of the Eiffel Tower, just to put an extra romantic slant on their union 🇨🇵.

That's how to do it, rather than grappling with French bureaucracy 😵‍💫.

Thanks for having me, sweethearts ❤️

HOW TO BEGIN YOUR WEDDING CEREMONY?

Modern weddings have a totally different look and feel to those of yesteryear and that includes the processional. Many brides still love to walk in with their mum/dad (or mum and dad), but countless options are available.

Don't be restricted by outdated traditions and, as always, do what feels right for you!

Matt and Elise got ready at home, arrived together and walked in together. Look how happy and relaxed they are! A perfect moment before the ceremony began and a perfect beginning for them.

AISLE WALK WITH CONFETTI, YES OR NO?

It's a big YES from me, but my reason may surprise you!

Goes without saying it's the million dollar shot (like this one from .creativeco) 📸 and I'll do my best to make sure everyone is in the moment and throwing those petals, leaves etc in the best possible way.

I also love it because it's the first time you step out as a married couple and walk through all your family and friends - remember to look at the delighted faces - I've just introduced you as Australia's newest married couple!

You are being showered with confetti and love, being given a little wedding charm here and there and taking it all in, thinking, "Holy s**t, we just got married!"

What a moment!!!

AFTER A CEREMONY.........

All celebrants adore a Google or Facebook review, but a handwritten card received in the post is very special!

Thank you, my darlings, Jack and Taija - you two were my dream couple - so chill and easy to work with and it was such a pleasure to share your love story with your guests!

Thanks for inviting me into your lives on one of life's best days.

Big love to the Tripps 😘😘

These two country kids, Georgia and Mitch, got married in the perfect location for them - the East Loddon Woolshed - in front of a big crowd of family and friends.

They also farm nearby, so we had Mitch's dad, the weather guru, keeping us informed about that looming black cloud in the west.

Amazingly, we finished the ceremony, paused slightly with umbrellas in hand for a few minutes before signing it off, followed by this epic confetti toss finale.

All the while, the lovely Christian from was capturing every special moment like this!

What is it about AFL GRAND FINAL DAY WEDDINGS?

Coming from a family where football was sacrosanct (and never to be interrupted), I am always surprised when couples book me on grand final day.

Ever since I've been a celebrant, I think I've been asked if I'm available every single grand final day, and I always say yes!

I love it when couples buck a trend, and that includes getting married today. Thanks for having me, Ruby and Jake - you are adorable and I loved hanging out with you at the Gold Mines Hotel today!

SPRING IS HERE in all its glorious unpredictability!

Beautiful season of growth and abundance for your nuptials, but PLEASE have a backup plan in the case of inclement weather. I'm heading to Mt Macedon for a wedding on Saturday, and last weekend they had a heavy drop of snow! ❄️ ☃️

Here's a pic of my beautiful garden atm to brighten up your feed this morning 🌸🌷. Sue x

"I'D LIKE TO WELCOME A VERY SPECIAL RINGBEARER - the caped vigilante from Gotham City, fighting evil and protecting the innocent, also known as the Dark Knight; yes it's none other than .... Batman!"

Pivotal moment in Laura and John's ceremony that will stay with me forever - so much love for incredible moments like this!

Many thanks to the lovely wedding guest who took these shots 🙏🖤

❤️❤️ FRAMING THE CEREMONY SPACE ❤️❤️

I've seen many ways to frame the ceremony space, but Saturday's wedding with Lauren and John would have to be one of the most unique!

For this farm wedding, Lauren's dad spent many an hour lovingly crafting this "little white chapel" facade as a surprise for his daughter. (and sourcing and painting the chairs to match!)

It was truly spectacular, and even though Saturday's weather was dodgy, there was no way we would not have the wedding ceremony there!

The wind blew, the showers came and went, but as soon as we saw some blue sky in the west, everyone grabbed a chair for a quick set-up. John and Laura exchanged vows and rings, perfectly framed in that doorway, with Lauren's dad unable to wipe the smile from his face.

Another spectacular surprise was the delivery of the wedding rings! I can't wait to share that! 😜

WRITING YOUR OWN WEDDING VOWS?

Some Do's and Don'ts:

DO
✔️ write in your own voice
✔️ speak from the heart
✔️ use a little bit of humour, if that's your ceremony vibe
✔️ mention personality characteristics that you adore
✔️ say what you are really grateful for
✔️ end with a couple of decent promises to your partner
✔️ PRACTISE, PRACTISE, PRACTISE!

DON'T
❌️ copy something from Google
❌️ use chat GPT (everyone will know and it won't sound like you)

In a nutshell, that's the way to truly authentic vows. I have a helpful guide and am always happy to help.

You're welcome!

Love this pic of Darren smashing his vows to Bernie, taken by the incredible for
