🎄CHRISTMAS COURTS CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENT🎄
Unfortunately, courts will be out of action from the 20th December, 2024 with work commencing on the 23rd December, and will not be available until Monday 13th January, with only courts 4 – 10 available.

Court 1 will be out of action until Wednesday 15th January (rings will be removed until this date).

Have an amazing holidays, and catch you back at the arena from the 13th!

Melbourne United Basketball Club announced this morning that Dash Daniels has signed with the team for NBL26 through the NBL Next Stars program. Bendigo-born Dash, who will turn 17 later this month, is one of the youngest players ever to sign in the NBL and is already a projected future first round NBA Draft pick.

Dash will join United as a training player for the remainder of NBL25, starting in January, ahead of becoming an NBL26 Next Star.

This morning at Bendigo Town Hall, we came together to celebrate International Day of People with Disability, highlighting inclusion, diversity, and the strength of community spirit.

Since 2019, Red Energy Arena has proudly partnered with AXIS Employment to create an inclusive culture that represents all members of our community.

One of the ways we champion accessibility is through our Access All Abilities (AAA) basketball program, run alongside Bendigo Basketball. This program brings the joy of basketball to people living with disability, showcasing the power of sport to unite us all 🏀

Central Victoria’s support for our programs here at Red Energy Arena was highlighted in November, when more than a thousand games of community basketball were played. This milestone was achieved as we continued to see surging numbers of players registering with our local clubs.

This summer, there are 540 teams registered, up from 489 just two years ago. A big driver of this growth is a boost in female participation, with 152 teams for women and girls registered this summer season. In total, there are 4,895 players participating, while Fridays are our busiest day of community basketball each week, with 80 matches.

“This milestone is testament to the countless hours our dedicated club volunteers at the Bendigo Basketball Association put in to bring the joy of basketball to our community,” Sam Cartwright, Basketball Manager for the BBA, says.

“Their dedication not only continues to grow our sport but also strengthens our community.”

That growth is a trend being seen elsewhere in Australia, with recently published research showing basketball is the nation’s second most popular team sport.

Thanks to Sports Focus, Paralympian Shelley Matheson will be attending a wheelchair basketball session at Red Energy Arena!

In the spirit of International Day of People with Disability coming up on 3rd December, we will be hosting a come & try wheelchair basketball event on 10th December from 6pm-7pm.

A fun, inclusive and welcoming atmosphere, the session is for anyone, of any age, and any ability. Wheelchairs are provided, and experience isn't needed.

Do you know someone who has a disability, or is recovering from an injury, or perhaps someone who has always wanted to try wheelchair basketball? This is the perfect opportunity to try the sport, with a three-time Paralympian!

Dyson Daniels has just played an amazing game of basketball in the US – player of the match with 6 steals (unheard of) and defeated the reigning NBA champs, Boston.

A great young Victorian achieving his big NBA dreams and doing Bendigo, and all of Victoria, proud. What a champ.

We are excited to announce that Red Energy Arena will host the 2024 CBL North West Grand Finals on Saturday December 7th. The Women’s Grand Final will be a 5:15pm tip off, with the Men’s Grand Final to follow at 8pm!

BBA President Martin Spottiswood said “The Bendigo Basketball Association has a trusted practice through Bendigo Stadium Limited to run successful events at Red Energy Arena. Being awarded the CBL Grand Finals is another feather in the cap of all concerned here, and we look forward to hosting this event.”

League Manager, Sarah Szczykulski expressed her excitement for this year’s Grand Final’s, “I am so excited about the venues that will be on show for the Grand Finals this year, especially with the size of Bendigo’s Arena and what they have got to offer.”

Tickets will go on sale at 10am on Monday December 2nd through Ticketek (tickets are online only- no Box Office sales). Adults $10, Child $3 (U16), Family $22.50 (2 Adult & 2 Children).
