We’re absolute thrilled to announce another Master artisan joining us for the 2025 Lost Trades Fair in March next year!
Grace Horne moved to Sheffield 30 years ago, the epicentre of England’s steel industry, with the express intention of becoming a pocket knife maker. This culminated in not only a career as a knife maker but also a PhD in Solid State Diffusion Bonded Damascus and its role within contemporary knife making!
A desire to make a pair of scissors 13 years ago led Grace down that specialist rabbit hole and a summer spent with Ernst Wright, the last company in Sheffield making scissors.
Fast forward to today and Grace is widely known as one of the best authorities on Scissor making and not only makes astounding beautiful scissors based on her own method of pre-industrial techniques but regularly teaches scissor making in workshops across the UK and around the world.
Come and see Grace exhibiting aspects of her trade, as well as presenting on stage for our 'Artisans Insights’ talks, which will run throughout the 3 days of the Fair.
AND
Grace will be teaching a class while here too! Students will make a 6” pair of scissors and get a start on a 4” pair to finish at home. Class dates TBA soon!

Lost Trades Fair : Bendigo 9 + 10 March 2024
Lost & Rare Trades Fair: founded to support and promote traditional trades, heritage skills and forgotten crafts and the dedicated artisans who continue to practise them as a career.
The Lost & Rare Trades Fair was founded on the principle that people are fascinated when artisans and craftspeople openly demonstrate their skills and share their knowledge. Traditional crafts, trades and industries that once were the backbone to building our country and regional towns, have gone and been often forgotten or overlooked in the wake of new technology.
OUR MISSION: To acknowledge and promote fine craftsmanship, traditional skills, rare trades and decorative arts.
VISION: Promote artisans pursuing traditional trades as a career with authenticity and an integrity that validates what they do and acknowledges their dedication to preserving and passing on traditional skills and knowledge. Provide a platform for true career artisans to share their skills and demonstrate their trades to an audience that is genuinely interested and engaged.
THE FAIR: The Fair promises to deliver an event experience that is authentic, real and retains the integrity on which it was founded. The Lost & Rare Trades Fair exists because of these artisans and will continue to celebrate their extraordinary talents, passion and excellence in craftsmanship. The Lost & Rare Trades Fair brand team are privileged to have earned the trust of many of Australia’s finest artisans and have a continued responsibility to deliver an event that is worthy of their skills and dedication to their craft.
GOALS
Lost & Rare Trades Fair was established to:
act as a guardian to arcane trades that have tradition at their foundation and to sustain and promote these crafts and skills rather than simply preserve them;
unite traditional crafters specialising in field crafts, workshop crafts, home and household crafts;
showcase human talents and inspire the next generation to embrace hand skills;
be inclusive of all trade disciplines and all mediums ( metal, stone, wood, glass, cloth, etc)
